VOLLEYBALL TEAM DROPS THREE-SETTER TO R.I.C.
PROVIDENCE, R.I. - Senior outside hitter Breanna Boyer (West Greenwich, R.I.) posted 19 kills to pace the Rhode Island College women’s volleyball team to a 3-0 (25-15, 25-17, 25-20) victory over Emmanuel College in non-conference action played at The Murray Center on Tuesday night.
PROVIDENCE, R.I. - Senior outside hitter Breanna Boyer (West Greenwich, R.I.) posted 19 kills to pace the Rhode Island College women's volleyball team to a 3-0 (25-15, 25-17, 25-20) victory over Emmanuel College in non-conference action played at The Murray Center on Tuesday night.
Rhode Island College (4-10) controlled the match from start to finish, boasting a .232 hitting percentage along the way. Emmanuel (5-12) did hold an early, 5-0, lead in the second set of the night, but fell behind following an 11-2 run from the Anchorwomen. Once again, the Saints briefly held the lead in the third set of the match, but couldn't avoid being swept by RIC as the hosts quickly bounced back and eventually coasted to a 25-20 win in the final frame of the evening.
Boyer led the way for the Anchorwomen with 19 kills, six digs and three blocks, while senior setter Jessica Ho (Providence, R.I.) tallied 28 assists and six digs. Junior outside hitter Amanda Cabral (Riverside, R.I.) recorded a team-high 14 digs to go along with four kills and a pair of blocks, while freshman libero Jasmyn Starr (Gilford, N.H.) registered 13 digs and a pair of aces. Freshman outside hitter Michelle Malboeuf (Cumberland, R.I.) was stellar as well for Rhode Island College as she notched eight kills and a pair of digs for the hosts.
The Saints were led by senior libero Yun-Ting Lee (Keelung, Taiwan), who totaled a match-high 17 digs, while sophomore outside hitter Christine Durkee (Salem, Conn.) added 14 digs. Sophomore right side hitter Sarah Colby (West Barnstable, Mass.) and freshman outside hitter Danielle Rose (Wilkes-Barre, Pa.) each chipped in with six kills.
In upcoming action, Rhode Island College will travel to Salem State on Thursday, Sept. 27 (7 p.m.). Meanwhile, Emmanuel returns home to host Eastern Nazarene College on Thursday as well (7 p.m.).
