SAINTS SWEEP TRI-MATCH AT ALBERTUS MAGNUS
NEW HAVEN, Conn. - The Emmanuel College Saints defeated Mitchell College 3-1 (22-25, 25-22, 25-22, 25-20) in a close non-conference battle at Albertus Magnus College on Saturday afternoon. Emmanuel was led by Sarah Colby (West Barnstable, Mass.) with 11 kills along with Danielle Rose (Wilkes-Barre, Pa.) with 10 kills, respectively.
NEW HAVEN, Conn. - The Emmanuel College Saints defeated Mitchell College 3-1 (22-25, 25-22, 25-22, 25-20) in a close non-conference battle at Albertus Magnus College on Saturday afternoon. Emmanuel was led by Sarah Colby (West Barnstable, Mass.) with 11 kills along with Danielle Rose (Wilkes-Barre, Pa.) with 10 kills, respectively.
After Mitchell won the opening set 25-22, the Saints battled back and won three-straight sets for the match victory. The Saints registered three sets with 10 or more kills and struggled in the fourth set with nine hitting miscues, despite being able to earn the victory.
Mitchell's Nicole Terni dished out 27 assists for the Mariners, while she added 12 digs and three service aces.
Emmanuel's Shannon Dudley (Arroyo Grande, Calif.) registered 24 assists in the match with 16 digs. Senior libero Yun-Ting Lee (Keelung, Taiwan) had a team-high 18 digs for the Saints, while Cara Callahan (Medway, Mass.) added 16.
In the first three sets, Emmanuel trailed early but overcame the deficits in the second and third sets to earn the victory. In the fourth and final set, the Saints led from end to end.
In set two, the Saints went on a 10-0 run after being down 16-10 to the Mariners. Callahan, who came off the bench for the Saints, registered nine-straight serves to lead the Saints in the 10-0 run.
In earlier action, Emmanuel fought for a 3-0 win (28-26, 25-14, 25-19) over host Albertus Magnus College in the Saints' conference opener. The Saints got 10 kills from Rose to led the offense. Senior hitter Nathalie Victoria (Brockton, Mass.) added 7 kills, while classmate Moriah Logan (Halifax, Mass.) returned to action with 6 kills and 5 digs.
Colby chipped in with 6 kills and freshman Brittany Tutalo (Johnston, R.I.) added 5 kills in the win. Callahan, Lee and Christine Durkee (Salem, Conn.) combined to led the defense with 33 digs, each recording double-figures. Sophomre setter Alison Donnelly (Longmeadow, Mass.) dished out 24 assists for Emmanuel.
With two wins on the day, Emmanuel improves to 5-11 on the year and 1-0 in the GNAC, while the loss to the Saints gave Mitchell a 2-6 overall record. Albertus Magnus now stands at 5-6 on the season and 0-3 in GNAC play.
