DANBURY, Conn. - A balanced attack across the front line aided the Western Connecticut State University women's volleyball team in a 3-0 victory over visiting Emmanuel College at The O'Neill Center on Thursday night. The Colonials improved to 6-5 on the season after cruising through three sets, 25-20, 25-20 and 25-9. Emmanuel now stands at 3-11 overall with the loss.

The Colonials improved to 6-5 on the season after cruising through three sets, 25-20, 25-20 and 25-9. Emmanuel now stands at 3-11 overall with the loss.
Sophomore Caitlin Van Camp (Redding, Conn.) and senior Paxton Thornton (Sharon, Conn.) led the hitters with nine kills apiece, while Melanie Lombardi (Danbury, Conn.) and Heather Williams (Kingston, N.Y.) added eight and seven kills, respectively.
After trailing early in the third set, sophomore Nina Wojtkiewicz (Griswold, Conn.) served 18 straight points to finish off the match. She finished with 14 digs and three services aces on the night.
Shirley Rodriguez (Rio Grande, Puerto Rico) led the Western defense with 30 digs in three sets. Sophomore Jenny Hogan (Franklin Square, N.Y.) paced the offense with 35 assists on 39 Western kills.
Emmanuel was paced by rookie hitter Danielle Rose (Wilkes-Barre, Pa.) who had seven kills. Senior libero Yun-Ting Lee (Keelung, Taiwan) and Cara Callahan (Medway, Mass.) notched 16 and 12 digs to head the Saints' defense. Shannon Dudley (Arroyo Grande, CA) registered nine assists in the loss for Emmanuel.
The Colonials will travel to University of Southern Maine to take on the Huskies and Lyndon State College this Saturday, September 22nd. Emmanuel will travel to New Haven, Connecticut for a tri-match with Albertus Magnus College and Mitchell College.
