WOMEN'S VOLLEYBALL OPENS 2012 CAMPAIGN AT ONEONTA STATE INVITATIONAL
This past weekend, the Emmanuel College women’s volleyball team opened its 2012 season in Oneonta, New York competing in the 43rd annual Oneonta State Invitational. The Saints wrapped up the weekend with a 1-3 overall record, notching a 3-1 victory over Hunter College on Aug. 31. Sophomore right side hitter Sarah Colby (West Barnstable, Mass.) was named to the All-Tournament team for her efforts over the four matches.
Oneonta, NY – This past weekend, the Emmanuel College women's volleyball team opened its 2012 season in Oneonta, New York competing in the 43rd annual Oneonta State Invitational. The Saints wrapped up the weekend with a 1-3 overall record, notching a 3-1 victory over Hunter College on Aug. 31. Sophomore right side hitter Sarah Colby (West Barnstable, Mass.) was named to the All-Tournament team for her efforts over the four matches.
The Saints opened the campaign against the tourney hosts, falling to Oneonta State, 3-0 (10-25, 19-25, 10-25) to begin the first day of action. Senior outside hitter Yun-Ting Lee (Keelung, Taiwan) had an impressive debut as a hitter, posting a .288 hitting percentage on four kills and 14 attacks to go along with 14 digs.
Against Hunter College, EC dropped the opening set 24-26 before storming back to take the match in four, winning the next three sets 25-13, 25-16, 27-25. Colby paced the offensive effort with a eight kills while freshman outside hitter Danielle Rose (Wilkes-Barre, Pa.) also added eight kills in the win. Sophomore setter Alison Donnelly (Longmeadow, Mass.) ran the offensive show with a match-high 24 assists while sophomore libero Cara Callahan (Medway, Mass.) was solid defensively with 16 digs.
Emmanuel dropped both its matches on Saturday falling to SUNY Potsdam, 3-0 (17-25, 13-25, 15-25) and then to SUNY Plattsburgh, 3-0 (21-25. 16-25, 24-26). Rose combined for 12 kills over the two matches while freshman setter Shannon Dudley (Arroyo Grande, Calif.) combined to dish out 16 assists.
The Saints return to action on Wednesday evening when they host Roger Williams University at the Jean Yawkey Center for a 7:00 PM non-conference matchup.
