THREE SAINTS VOTED TO TENNIS ALL-CONFERENCE TEAM
Oct. 25, 2011
Three members of the Emmanuel College Women's Tennis Team received All-Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) recognition after leading the Saints to a 13-3 record and a GNAC Tournament Semifinal appearance this year. Emmanuel freshman Alex Hadlock (Framingham, Mass.) was named 1st Team All-GNAC, while juniors Taylor Dey (Woodbridge, Conn.) and Jenna Reid (Lincoln, R.I.) received 2nd Team All-Conference honors.
Hadlock was among the top six vote-getters, landing a spot on the conference's 1st Team. Her stellar rookie campaign saw her boast an 11-3 overall record and a 4-2 mark in the GNAC, while starting in Emmanuel's No. 2 singles spot throughout the season. Entering her collegiate career without any high school doubles experience, Hadlock earned herself a spot in the Saints' No. 1 duo, teaming up with Dey for a 5-5 doubles record this year. During the season, Hadlock was honored by the conference over three consecutive weeks, as she was named the GNAC Rookie of the Week on September 12th, the GNAC Player of the Week on September 19th and named to the GNAC Weekly Honor Roll on September 26th.
Also receiving 1st Team All-GNAC honors were: Lacey Russell (Emerson), Savannah Mosser (Emerson), Margaret Teague (Simmons), Allison Bodek (Simmons) and Nicole Eskenazi (Simmons).
Both Taylor Dey and Jenna Reid are receiving their All-Conference recognition for the third-straight year. Dey started for her third season in the Saints' No. 1 singles and No. 1 doubles positions. Taking on the opponents' top competitors throughout the season, Dey went 9-5 overall and 3-3 in league play during her singles matches. She was named to the GNAC Weekly Honor Roll on September 12th this season. Dey and Hadlock also teamed up for an unprecedented win at Salve Regina University's Grass Courts Doubles Tournament. The pair rolled to three-straight wins and took the Flight A Championship on September 17th.
Reid was solid all year in Emmanuel's No. 4 singles slot. The three-time 2nd Team All-GNAC pick posted 11 wins and just 3 losses in singles action, while owning a 4-2 record against GNAC foes. Reid and freshman teammate Jenni Hewes (Cape Elizabeth, Me.) started in the Saints' 3rd doubles position and went 4-2 on the year. Reid was named to the GNAC Weekly Honor Roll on October 3rd.
Along with Dey and Reid, the 2nd Team All-GNAC members included Sabrina Salmela (Simmons), Samantha Jo Borr (JWU), Stephanie Peperis (JWU) and Erica LeBlanc (Suffolk).
In addition to the All-Conference Teams, the GNAC selected its annual All-Sportsmanship Team. One member from each of the member institutions was selected to represent their school on the team, based on their sportsmanlike behavior throughout the season. Emmanuel sophomore Amanda Woznicki (Bristol, Conn.) represented the Saints on the 2011 All-Sportsmanship Team.
