SIMMONS SWEEPS EMMANUEL IN WOMEN'S TENNIS ACTION

BOSTON, Mass. - The Emmanuel Women's Tennis Team dropped 9-0 decision to the top-ranked team in the Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) on Wednesday afternoon. Simmons College entered the match at 9-6 on the season and undefeated in GNAC play. The Sharks swept the host Saints to remain unbeaten in the conference. Emmanuel now drops to 10-3 overall and 5-2 in the league. The Saints are currently in a three-way tie, along with Suffolk University and Emerson College, for second place in the conference standings.
Simmons made a quick sweep of the Saints in all three doubles matches. Sabrina Salmela and Athena Lynch knocked off Taylor Dey (Woodbridge, Conn.) and Nory Hayes (Newport, R.I.), 8-2. Maggie Taylor and Melissa Keroack topped juniors Megan Harrington (Leicester, Mass.) and Catherine Dunphy (Duxbury, Mass.), 8-3, handing the Emmanuel duo their first doubles loss of the season. Harrington and Dunphy now stand at 8-1 in doubles play. In the third doubles match, Jordan Borash and Katy Hallinan make quick work of Taylor Kelly (Poughkeepsie, N.Y.) and Brianna Murphy (Wilbraham, Mass.), dropping the junior tandem, 8-1.
All six singles matches went to the Sharks as well. However, Emmanuel forced tie-breakers at the 2nd and 3rd positions. Simmons rookie Sabrina Salmela gave Emmanuel's undefeated freshman Taylor Dey her first loss of the season with a 6-1, 6-1 decision. Dey is now 10-1 overall and 4-1 in the GNAC.
Senior captain Nory Hayes gave Maggie Taylor a run at second singles, before falling in three sets, 6-1, 2-6, 10-5. Harrington fell to Lynch in the 3rd singles position after forcing a hard-fought tie-breaker in three sets, 4-6, 6-1, 10-8.
Borash defeated Emmanuel freshman Jenna Reid (Lincoln, R.I.), 6-2, 6-2, in fourth singles. Keroack was victorious over junior Alexandra Shakra (Bedford, N.H.) in the fifth slot, 6-4, 6-1. Dunphy fell to Brittany Dolloff in sixth singles, 6-2, 6-1.
The 10-3 Saints will play in a crucial GNAC match on Saturday in Providence, R.I. Emmanuel will take on Johnson & Wales University (3-3) in an 11am start on the courts at Rhode Island College. This is the Saints' last regular season match. Emmanuel will play in the GNAC tournament next week, with the quarterfinals beginning on October 21st.
