SHARKS SHUT DOWN SAINTS IN GNAC TENNIS ACTION

BOSTON, MA - The Emmanuel Women's Tennis Team was shut out by Colleges of the Fenway rival, Simmons College, in a GNAC match played at the Winsor School on Tuesday night. With both the Saints and the Sharks playing on their home courts, Simmons dominated the play and came away with a 9-0 win. With this loss, Emmanuel falls to 5-5 on the season and 2-3 in Great Northeast Athletic Conference matches.
The Sharks opened the match, sweeping the Saints' doubles teams. Senior co-captain Rachel Strauss (Westwood, MA) and sophomore Megan Harrington (Leicester, MA) were defeated, 8-2. Sophomore Catherine Dunphy (Duxbury, MA) and junior Caitrin Dunn (Toms River, NJ) lost, 8-1. The sophomore team of Brianna Murphy (Wilbraham, MA) and Taylor Kelly (Poughkeepsie, NY) put up a fight before falling, 8-5.
In singles play, Strauss took the loss in the number one slot, falling, 6-1 and 6-1. Harrington was defeated at second singles, 6-2, 6-0. Sophomore Alexandra Shakra (Bedford, NH) picked up a loss at third singles, 6-0, 6-0. Dunphy fell at 4th singles, 7-5 and 6-2, while Dunn took the hit at 5th singles, 6-1, 6-1. Freshman Victoria Trull, (Lowell, MA) who was recently named the GNAC's Rookie of the Week, was defeated in 6th singles, 6-1, 6-1.
Emmanuel will play again on Saturday, as the Saints travel to New Haven, CT to take on the Falcons of Albertus Magnus College in a 1pm start.
