TENNIS TEAM DOWNS RIC, 7-2

PROVIDENCE, R.I. - The Emmanuel Women's Tennis Team earned a 7-2 non-conference win at Rhode Island College on Tuesday afternoon. The Saints now stand at 7-1 on the season, while RIC slips to 1-10 overall.
Junior Taylor Dey (Woodbridge, Conn.) had a stellar day for Emmanuel (7-1), as she cruised to a victory at No. 1 singles (6-1, 6-0) and teamed up with sophomore Jenny Konecnik (Sparta, N.J.) for a 1st doubles win (8-5). Sophomore Brittany Rothstein (Tiverton, R.I.) and junior Christine Cuddemi (Saugus, Mass.) teamed up to record the victory at third doubles (8-1) and each earned wins No. 5 and No. 6 singles, respectively.
The Saints also got a big win from sophomore Amanda Woznicki (Bristol, Conn.) playing No. 2 singles with a 6-3, 6-3 victory. Freshman Lexi Rogers (North Hamton, N.H.) played in her first collegiate match and rolled to a straight-set, 6-1, 6-2, win.
Rhode Island College junior Doris Belanger (West Warwick, RI) improved her record at No. 3 singles to 7-4 and also notched her second doubles victory of the season alongside freshman Gianna Vallante (Coventry, RI). Belanger's team-high seventh win was the lone singles victory for RIC (1-10) on the day. She earned it in dramatic fashion, topping Konecnik 7-6 (7-5), 6-2. The win at No. 2 doubles for Belanger and Vallante was just the fourth doubles win of the season for the Anchorwomen, as the tandem knocked off their counterparts with a 9-8 (7-5) victory.
In upcoming action, the Anchorwomen resume Little East Conference action at home against UMass Dartmouth tomorrow afternoon (5:00 p.m.). Emmanuel will host Salem State University in another non-conference match this Thursday at 3:30 p.m.
