WOMEN'S TENNIS DOWNS SOUTHERN MAINE, 5-0, IN RAIN-SHORTENED MATCH

BOSTON, MASS. - The Emmanuel College women's tennis team notched five singles victories before the skies opened up to earn a 5-0 victory over the University of Southern Maine Monday evening at the Winsor Tennis Courts in Boston, Mass. With the victory the Saints continue their stellar play and open the year with a 6-1 mark for the first time since 2009. The Huskies fall to 5-4 on the campaign.
Emmanuel was able to sweep all singles matches in straight sets as junior Taylor Dey (Woodbridge, Conn.) set the tone at #1 singles with a 6-2, 6-2 victory over sophomore Mary Moran (Windham, Maine). Freshman Alex Hadlock (Framingham, Mass.) was also solid our of the #2 singles spot, defeating sophomore Emily Boutin (Old Town, Maine) 6-0, 6-2.
In the bottom half of the singles lineup, junior Jenna Reid (Lincoln, R.I.) carried over her strong play from last week to register a hard fought 6-4, 6-4 win over junior Ali Harley (Boothbay Harbor, Maine). Sophomore Jenny Konecnik (Sparta, N.J.) performed well for the Saints in the #5 slot with a 6-0, 6-4 victory over freshman Molly Morrill (Litchfield, Maine) while freshman Jenni Hewes (Cape Elizabeth, Maine) completed the sweep with a 6-1, 6-1 win over sophomore Meaghan Robinson (Stonington, Maine) in #5 singles action.
The #3 singles match between sophomore Amanda Woznicki (Bristol, Conn.) and junior Tegan Talbot (Topsham, Maine) was called short due to the rain and the three doubles matches were also rained out.
Emmanuel will return to action tomorrow when they host Rhode Island College at 3:30 p.m. while the Huskies are back on the courts on Wednesday, October 5 when they travel to Colby-Sawyer for a non-conference matchup at 3:30 p.m.
