WOMEN'S TENNIS TOPS ANNA MARIA, 7-2

Paxton, Mass. - Fueled by a singles sweep, the Emmanuel College women's tennis team recorded a 7-2 victory over Anna Maria College Saturday afternoon in Paxton, Mass. With the victory the Saints improve to 5-1 on the year and 3-1 in Great Northeast Athletic Conference Play while the loss drops the AMCATS to 3-5 overall and 1-3 in GNAC play.
The Saints notched victories in all six singles slots to help guide them to the conference victory. Junior Taylor Dey (Woodbridge, Conn.) earned the #1 singles victory (6-1, 6-0) while freshman Alex Hadlock (Framingham, Mass.) was perfect in #2 singles action with a straight set (6-0, 6-0) win. Sophomore Amanda Woznicki (Bristol, Conn.) was also strong in #3 singles, topping her opponent 6-1, 6-1. In the lower half of the singles lineup, junior Jenna Reid (Lincoln, R.I.) earned a hard fourth 6-4, 6-1 victory out of the #4 slot while in one of the best matches of the morning, sophomore Jenny Konecnik (Sparta, N.J.) downed freshman Pam McWaid (Wolcott, Conn.), 6-3, 6-3 to notch the win in #5 singles. Freshman Alex Jennings (Granby, Conn.) made it a clean sweep with a win out of #6 doubles after her opponent withdrew due to an injury.
The other Emmanuel win would come out of the #3 doubles match as freshman Kelsey Barrasso (Nahant, Mass.) and senior Erin Thornton (Worcester, Mass.) team up to defeat junior Jacqui Barbaro (Middlebury, Conn.) and sophomore Samantha Lamb-Wotton (Lewiston, Maine), 8-0.
The AMCATS were able to salvage wins out of #1 and #2 doubles play as the sophomore duo of Emily Williamson (Spencer, Mass.) and Victorie Minotti (Shelton, Conn.) registered an 8-1 win over seniors Lauren Lesko (Plymouth, Mass.) and Victoria Trull (Lowell, Mass.). In the #2 doubles match, the freshmen pair of Janice Wang (Branchburg, N.J.) and Nicole Goudreau (Harrisville, R.I.) downed junior Christine Cuddemi (Saugus, Mass.) and freshman Taryn Medeiros (Saugus, Mass.), 8-2.
The Saints will return to the courts on Monday, October 3 when they host University of Southern Maine at 6:30 p.m. at Winsor Courts while the AMCATS are back in action on Wednesday, October 5 when they travel to West Hartford, Conn. to face on St. Joseph College at 3:30 p.m.
