WOMEN'S TENNIS DOWNS CLARK, 7-2

Boston, Mass. - The Emmanuel College women's tennis team came captured five of six singles matches en route to a 7-2 victory over Clark University this afternoon at the Winsor School tennis courts. With the victory the Saints improve to 2-0 on the season while the loss drops the Cougars to 0-2 in the early goings of the 2011 campaign.
The Saints received extremely strong play from the sophomores Amanda Woznicki (Bristol, Conn.) and Jenny Konecnik (Sparta, N.J.) as the duo combined to pick up an 8-4 win in #2 doubles action. Woznicki followed it up with a 6-3, 7-5 win at #3 singles while Konecnik notched a 6-0, 7-5 victory at #5 singles. Junior Jenna Reid (Lincoln, R.I.) and freshman Jenni Hewes (Cape Elizabeth, Maine) also enjoyed productive matches as the pair teamed up to post an 8-5 victory at #3 doubles before splitting up to capture victories in singles play as well. Reid registered a 6-3, 6-2 victory out of the #4 singles spot while Hewes recorded a win in #6 singles after her opponent, junior Holly DiMichele (Redlands, Calif.) retired due to injury when the first set was all square at 2-2.
The Cougars did receive strong play in both #1 singles and doubles action as sophomore Gaby Suriano (San Salvador, El Salvador) picked up two victories, downing junior Taylor Dey (Woodbridge, Conn.) 6-2, 6-0 in #1 singles play before teaming up with sophomore Sarah Sachs (Brandford, Conn.) to capture the #1 doubles match, 8-5, to account for Clark's two wins in the match.
Emmanuel returns to the courts on Thursday, September 15 when they play host to the University of Southern Maine in a 6:30 p.m. matchup at the Winsor Courts while the Cougars are idle until Saturday, September 17 when they head to Cambridge, Mass. to face MIT at the DuPont Tennis Courts in a 1:00 p.m. match.
