WOMEN'S TENNIS TEAM SERVES UP CURRY

BOSTON, Mass. - The Emmanuel College Women's Tennis Team knocked off Curry College, 8-1, in non-conference women's tennis action played at the Winsor School on Thursday night. The Saints began their home opener by sweeping all three doubles matches and went on to take five of the six singles matches for the 8-1 win. All five of Emmanuel's singles wins came in straight sets. With the match win, the Saints improved to .500 on the year at 1-1.
The Saint eased past the visiting Colonels in doubles action. Freshman Taylor Dey (Woodbridge, Conn.) and senior captain Nory Hayes (Newport, R.I.) teamed up for an 8-2 win at first doubles. Junior Megan Harrington (Leicester, Mass.) and Alexandra Shakra (Bedford, N.H.) took an easy 8-0 win at second doubles, while rookies Emily Resnevic (Manville, R.I.) and Jenna Reid (Lincoln, R.I.) downed their third doubles opponents, 8-3.
Heading into singles action with a 3-0 lead, the Saints needed to win just two of their six matches to take the overall match win. The hosts took wins in all but fifth singles. Dey won at 1st singles, 6-3, 6-3. Hayes won at 2nd singles, 6-3, 6-2. Harrington was victorious in 3rd singles, 6-1, 6-1, while junior Taylor Kelly (Poughkeepsie, N.Y.) took a 6-4, 6-4 win at 4th singles. Curry's Courtney Sullivan pulled out the Colonels' only win of the night, defeating Emmanuel's sophomore Victoria Trull (Lowell, Mass.), 2-6, 4-6, in the fifth singles slot. Junior Catherine Dunphy (Duxbury, Mass.) came away with an effortless 6-1, 6-0 win at 6th singles.
Emmanuel will compete in 25th Annual Women's Grass Court Doubles Tournament on Saturday (9/12). The tournament is hosted by Salve Regina University and held at the Tennis Hall of Fame in Newport, R.I. The Saints will enter three doubles teams in this year's tournament.
