RAMS SNAG TWO FROM SAINTS

BOSTON, Mass. - The Suffolk University Softball team swept a
Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) double header on Friday
afternoon over the Emmanuel College Saints. The Rams were
victorious in game one 7-1 and used a 3-2 game two win for the
twinbill sweep.
Freshman Sarah Chasse (Salem, Mass.) was once again dominant on the
mound for the Rams, picking up the win in the opener before closing
out the nightcap for her third save of the season to propel the
Rams to victory.
Game One:
Suffolk 7 Emmanuel 1
A five run third inning set the table for the Rams in the opener as
they cruised to a 7-1 victory over the Saints. The Rams got
on the board early scoring a pair of runs in their first at bat as
sophomore Nikki Cignarella (Norwood, Mass.) drove in two with a
single with a two-out single to right to give Suffolk the early 2-0
edge.
In the third, the first seven hitters the Rams sent to the plate
would reach base safely as they scored five times on five hits.
Chasse opened the inning with a double and was plated by a single
off the bat of freshman Nicole Rosa (Wallingford, Conn.). Sophomore
Erin McAndrews (Marblehead, Mass.) would follow Rosa with an RBI
single. Senior Karina Bolster (Carlisle, Pa.) drove in a run later
in the inning on a fielder's choice, and freshman Alicia Gonnella
(Bridgewater, N.J.) capped the scoring with a single later in the
inning as the Rams built a 7-1 lead after three innings of
play.
Chasse had little problems with the Saints lineup as she improved
to an 11-9 mark on the season for the Rams. Chasse fanned seven
hitters allowing one run on four hits.
The Saints lone run of the game came in the second inning as junior
Jackie
Murray (Saugus, Mass.) knocked in junior Laura Benvenuto
(Wyckoff, N.J.) with a single.
Game Two:
Suffolk 3 Emmanuel 2
The Rams got on the board first in game two as Karina Bolster
connected on her first home run of the season to lead off the
second inning. Jackie Murray
picked up her second RBI of the day in the third for the Saints and
she once again scored Laura Bevenuto, this time with an RBI
groundout to first.
Nicole Rosa drove in the go-ahead run in the fifth inning with a
single to plate Sarah Chasse, who reached on an infield error with
one out and Erin McAndrews would knock in what would turn out to be
the game winning run with a sacrifice fly to center field in the
following at-bat.
The Saints would threaten in the sixth inning, as freshman Julia Demirali
(West Roxbury, Mass.) and sophomore Jennifer Garrity
(Lynn, Mass.) would hit consecutive doubles with one out to make it
a 3-2 game and chase Suffolk starter Alicia Gonnella from the
contest.
Chasse would enter the game from centerfield and would end the
threat would two groundouts to end the inning. Chasse pitched the
final inning and two-thirds to record her third save of the
season.
Gonnella moved to 4-3 on the year for the Rams as she struck out
nine in 5 1/3 innings of work. The only two hits she allowed were
the doubles in the fifth.
Junior Kelly
Lloid (Issaquah, Wash.) pitched well in the loss for the
Saints, as she scattered eight hits through six innings of work
while striking out five hitters. Lloid allowed three runs, only one
run charged was earned.
