EMMANUEL SOFTBALL TEAM FALLS TO LASELL

Newton, MA - The Emmanuel College Softball Team fell to Lasell College in GNAC softball action on Sunday afternoon. The visiting Saints were looking for their first win of the season and took an early 2-1 lead over the host Lasers. But, Lasell turned up the momentum late in the day and came away with an 11-3 victory.
Rookie right-fielder Deanna Mastrovito (Worcester, MA) provided an early scoring opportunity for the Saints reaching on a single in the opening inning for Emmanuel. Senior catcher Stephanie Rege (Chicopee, MA) turned in a solid offensive performance. Rege went two for two on the day, including a double in the second inning and a single in the top of the fifth. Sophomore first-baseman Erin McSheffrey (Woburn, MA) recorded an RBI single in the second inning, knocking in Rege. McSheffrey also singled in the third and went 2 for 3 from the plate. Senior third-baseman Jen Walsh (West Springfield, MA) notched an RBI single that scored McSheffrey for Emmanuel's go-ahead run in the second inning.
Lasell's junior pitcher Amanda Corey (Brookyn, CT) picked up the win, pitching a six-hitter and striking out three Emmanuel batters. The second game of the day was called due to the poor field conditions. Emmanuel will return to Lasell on Thursday evening (4/10) for game two, beginning at 4:30pm. The Saints will also play at Daniel Webster College on Monday afternoon (4/7) at 3:30pm and at Simmons College on Wednesday (4/9) at 3:30pm.
