SAINTS DROP GNAC OPENER TO NORWICH

Boston, MA - The Emmanuel Softball Team opened up Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) play on Saturday afternoon, hosting the Cadets of Norwich University. The Saints dropped both games of the conference double-header, falling to the Cadets, 15-3 and 23-7.
Emmanuel's sophomore shortstop Danielle Andruskiwec (Orange, CT) came away with two hits in the first game, including a lead-off triple in the 2nd inning and an RBI double in the 5th. Freshman outfielder Deanna Mastrovito (Worcester, MA) recorded a two-RBI single, knocking in Andruskiwec and senior catcher Stephanie Rege, who reached after being hit by a pitch. Sophomore centerfielder Samantha Luther (Carlisle, MA) singled, stole second, and was knocked in by Andruskiwec for Emmanuel's 3rd run of game one.
Highlights of game two included a three-run triple by sophomore left-fielder Chelsea Baldwin (Canonsburg, PA), which scored Rege, Kristina Borrelli (Kingston, MA), and Erin McSheffrey (Woburn, MA) in the bottom of the second. Luther singled and knocked in Baldwin for Emmanuel's 4th run of the game. Late in the 5th, Andruskiwec reached on a walk, and Borrelli singled, giving Emmanuel a first and second situation. Rege then hit a long ball to right that was misplayed by a Norwich outfielder, knocking in Andruskiwec and Borrelli. McSheffrey ripped a sacrifice fly to left that scored Rege for the Saints' 7th run of the game.
Sophomore Kiah Eilenfeldt (Davis, CA) and freshman Christina Lacoste (Belchertown, MA) split the games on the mound for Emmanuel. Eilenfeldt opened up game one and was relieved in the 3rd, while Lacoste pitched the opening three innings of game two and came back in to close out the 7th.
The Saints dropped to 0-12 on the season and will be looking for their first win of the season today as they take on the Gators of Pine Manor College in a GNAC double-header. These games will be played at Rotch Playground and are scheduled to begin at 3pm.
