March 15, 2008
Kissimmee, FL - The Emmanuel College Softball Team traveled to Florida over the spring break to play ten regular season games. The team faced some tough non-conference competition down south. The Saints returned with ten losses, but the team improved over the week and is looking forward to kicking off Great Northeast Athletic (GNAC) play this weekend.
Emmanuel's Florida games included losses to Mount Union College (8-0 and 8-0), Simpson College (7-0), Oneonta State College (18-1), Heidelberg (6-0), Hiram College (9-1), Washington College (7-3), Benedictine College (10-1), and Transylvania College (8-0 and 9-0).
First year head coach Michelle Morales is enthusiastic about the team's outlook this season. She is hoping the Saints will surprise some teams and make waves in the GNAC this year. Sophomore infielder Danielle Andruskiwec (Orange, CT) returned from Florida batting .429 with nine hits and a .524 slugging percentage. Sophomores Erin McSheffrey (Woburn, MA) and Sarah Palmer-Thompson (Dennis, MA) racked up six hits apiece on the road trip.
Three pitchers shared time on the mound while in Florida. Sophomore Kiah Eilenfeldt (Davis, CA) saw the majority of action, appearing 8 times and pitching 2 complete games. Freshman Christina Lacoste (Belchertown, MA) opened up her collegiate season, pitching 24 innings for the Saints down south. Senior captain Stephanie Rege (Chicopee, MA) will also help out in the Saints' battery rotation this year.
Emmanuel will travel to West Hartford, CT on Friday (3/28) for a GNAC double-header with Saint Joseph College beginning at 3pm. The Saints will take on Norwich University on Saturday, using Emerson's Rotch Park as their home field. Saturday's double-header will begin at 1pm.
