Bio

Rob Spofford joined the Emmanuel Athletic Staff in the summer of 2012 as the Head Coach for the Saints Softball Team.

In 2015, Spofford guided his squad to the best season in program history. Emmanuel won a program-record 20 games, advanced to the Great Northeast Athletic Conference Semifinals and accomplished many firsts including three post-season victories.

In just his second season at the helm of the Emmanuel program, Spofford led Emmanuel to a near program-record for wins with 17, as well as to the Saints' first GNAC Tournamen appearance in ten years.

While at Emmanuel, Coach Spofford has mentored two All-ECAC selections, three NFCA All-region picks and six All-Conference players in the GNAC including the 2015 Pitcher of the Year.

Spofford came to Emmanuel after three years as an Assistant Coach at local Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) rival Emerson College. During his three-year coaching stint at Emerson, Spofford helped the Lions to two first place finishes during the GNAC regular season with impressive back-to-back 22-2 conference campaigns in 2011 and 2012.  While at Emerson, Spofford and the Lions made two trips to the GNAC Finals and held a three-year conference record of 66-8.  Prior to coaching at Emerson, Spofford spent two years as the head varsity coach at Cohasset High School, where he led his squad to a South Sectional Championship and a trip to the Massachusetts Division III State Finals.

In addition to his collegiate and high school coaching experience, Spofford is the founder and director of the Bay State Thunder, a highly successful girls’ junior olympic fastpitch softball program featuring some of the finest high school softball players from Southeastern Massachusetts and Cape Cod.

Coach Spofford brings a wealth of experience to his new position with the Saints.  Spofford was also a Softball Youth Coordinator, Board Member and Coach for the Cohasset Youth Baseball Softball Association from 1999-2009.  He has been a member of the National Fastpitch Coaches Association (NFCA) since 2007.

Spofford received his undergraduate degree from Northeastern University in 1982.  Off the field, Spofford is the founder, owner and President of The Spofford Group Insurance Brokerage.

He and his wife, Susan, reside in Cohasset and have four daughters.
