Softball Extends Winning Streak to 19; Downs Regis 8-3 & 9-0
BOSTON, Mass. - The Emmanuel College softball team rattled off another twinbill sweep to run their program-record winning streak to 19-games on Thursday evening, downing Regis College by scores of 8-3 and 9-0 (5 inn.) at Roberto Clemente Field in Boston, Mass.

THE LEAD – The Emmanuel College softball team rattled off another twinbill sweep to run their program-record winning streak to 19-games on Thursday evening, downing Regis College by scores of 8-3 and 9-0 (5 inn.) at Roberto Clemente Field in Boston, Mass.
HOW IT HAPPENED (GM 1)
- Trailing 2-1 entering the third, back-to-back solo homers by sophomore Olivia Conti (Cranston, R.I.) and senior Kianna Hinson (Whittier, Calif) gave Emmanuel the lead for good, pulling the hosts ahead at the time, 3-2.
- The Saints added three more runs in the fourth on a pair on fielder choice RBI groundouts by Hinson and junior infielder Maegan Amsler (Hanover, mass.) to make it 5-2.
- Emmanuel opened the game up in the sixth plating three more runs to move the lead to 8-2. Senior Grace Orcutt (Lexington, Mass.) recorded an RBI single in the frame while senior Avery Webb (Hollis, N.H.) added an RBI in the inning.
- The Pride cut into the lead in the final frame as Bianca Burke (Cambridge, Mass.) drove in a run in the seventh with an RBI single up the middle to account for the 8-3 final.
INSIDE THE NUMBERS (GM 1)
- EC junior pitcher Tianna Dawe (Peabody, Mass.) earned the win going the distance and scattering five hits over 7.0 innings of work and striking out a pair to improve to 12-5 on the year.
- Conti finished the game going 3-for-3 with a career-high four runs scored. Her solo home run in the third was her 10th of the season, tying the Emmanuel single-season record set by Yuleska Ramirez-Tejeda '20 during the 2019 campaign.
- Hinson also finished the day with three hits, driving in and scoring a pair in the victory.
- Regis junior outfielder Bri Page (New Boston, N.H.) was the only member of the Pride to record multiple hits in the outing, going 2-for-3 with a run and RBI.
- Junior Diana Petrarca (Coventry, R.I.) suffered the loss for Regis, surrendering three runs on five hits over 3.0 innings of work, recording two K's to fall to 0-1 on the year.
HOW IT HAPPENED (GM 2)
- The Saints made Game 2 a no-doubter from the start, plating six runs in the first inning to take control of the action from the start. Hinson opened the scoring with an RBI double and came around to score on a single to left by Orcutt to make it 2-0. Later in the inning, first year designated player Madison Marks (Edgewater Park, N.J.) belted a grand slam to drive in four and bump the lead to 6-0.
- A sac-fly by Marks in the second made it a 7-0 score before she drove in another run in the fourth on an RBI single to put the run-rule in effect at 8-0. First year outfielder Abigail Farr (Windsor Locks, Conn.) drove in the final run of the night with an RBI groundout to account for the 9-0.
- Meanwhile on the defensive side, Emmanuel played a strong game in support of first year starting pitcher Brenna Whittaker (Cranston, Mass.) to complete the shutout.
INSIDE THE NUMBERS (GM 2)
- Whittaker tossed 5.0 innings and surrendered just two hits while striking out a pair to improve to 8-4 on the year.
- Marks finished the game with a 2-for-2 showing at the plate, knocking in a career-high six runs in the victory.
- Orcutt also was perfect in the win going 3-for-3 with two runs scored and an RBI.
- Sophomore infielder Abby Erickson (Worcester, Mass.) and Petrarca were the only visitors to register hits off Whittaker as each finished the game with a single.
- First year Sofia Vitale (Winthrop, Mass.) suffered the defeat in the circle to fall to 0-1 on the year before being relieved by sophomore Jilian Glynn (Londonderry, N.H.) who worked 3.2 innings, recording three strikeouts.
UP NEXT
- The Saints wrap up the regular season on Saturday, April 30 against Albertus Magnus College at home beginning at 11:00 AM.
- The Pride host Elms College the same day with a doubleheader scheduled to begin at 12:00 PM in Weston, Mass. with Senior Day festivities also taking place during the action.
