THE LEAD – On Sunday's Senior Day, eight members of the Saints Class of 2022 celebrated back-to-back, 8-0 wins over the Anna Maria AMCATS, boosting the Saints winning streak up to 15 games, following Sunday's doubleheader sweep in Great Northeast Athletic Conference play.
In between games of the doubleheader, the Softball program recognized Class of 2022 members Abigail Conley (Riverside, R.I.), Jadynne Hill (Haverhill, Mass.), Kiana Hinson (Whittier, Calif.), Renae Lacroix (Cumberland, R.I.), Ambur Leczel (Glendora, Calif.), Victoria Leyden (Cranston, R.I.), Grace Orcutt (Lexington, Mass.), and Avery Webb (Hollis, N.H.) for their contributions to the program on Senior Day.
HOW IT HAPPENED (GAME 1)
- In game one, the Saints offense produced runs with a small ball approach before breaking the game open in the sixth inning.
- Starting in the bottom of the third, a bases loaded walk to Webb scored junior Julyanne Pacheco (Somerset, Mass.), giving the Saints a 1-0 lead.
- Sacrifice fly-outs in the fourth inning by Pacheco, then again in the fifth inning by Webb, added two more runs to the EC lead, now at 3-0.
- The game was busted open in the bottom of the next inning, as the five-run inning for the Saints started thanks to an RBI double by first-year Abigail Farr (Windsor Locks, Conn.). An RBI triple to right-center by Hill and an RBI single for Pacheco followed, upping the Emmanuel edge to 6-0. Webb put the Saints within one run of victory with an infield single, helping EC to a 7-0 edge.
- In a strange final play with no outs and the bases loaded in the bottom of the sixth, Orcutt grounded into a 5-3 double play, but with Lacroix scoring on the play, the Saints triggered the run rule win, 8-0.
- The AMCATS had their chances early in the game, leaving runners stranded on the corners in the first inning, and again in the third inning after leaving runners on second and third to end the inning.
INSIDE THE NUMBERS (GAME 1)
- Hill and Farr both batted 2-for-3 with an RBI and a run scored. Hill finished with a double and a triple in the victory.
- Webb finished the opening game 1-for-2 with three RBI. Pacheco was also 1-for-2, contributing two RBI in the victory.
- Junior Tianna Dawe (Lynn, Mass.) pitched all six innings for EC, allowing six hits to go with five strikeouts. Dawe moves to 9-5 this season while holding teams scoreless over her last 14 innings.
- Anna Maria graduate Michelle Cilley (Dracut, Mass.) was a perfect 3-for-3, all singles.
- Junior Samantha Dahill (Littleton, Mass.), and sophomores Eden Forget (Worcester, Mass.), and Kiara Edmonds (Lynn, Mass.) all batted 1-for-3 in the opening game.
HOW IT HAPPENED (GAME 2)
- Emmanuel used a four-run second inning to take early control of game two. With runners on second and third, Hill singled through the left side, scoring the runner from third, giving EC a 1-0 lead.
- Later in the inning, with the bases loaded, Lacroix secured her 100th career hit, a single to left field that scored a pair, boosting the Saints lead to 3-0. Sophomore Olivia Conti (Cranston, R.I.) later singled to center, scoring Lacriox and giving Emmanuel a 4-0 lead.
- The Saints added to their lead in the third with an RBI double by Hill, followed in the fourth inning on a fielder's choice that scored Lacroix and moved EC ahead 6-0.
- Meanwhile, Saints first-year pitcher Brenna Whittaker (Cranston, R.I.) was dealing, pitching 4.2 innings without allowing a hit until a two-out single in the top of the fifth by Cilley broke up the no-hit bid.
- Leading 6-0 in the bottom of the sixth, a Conti double to right-center field set up a walk-off home run just inside the left-field line by Webb, triggering the run rule in Emmanuel's 8-0 win.
INSIDE THE NUMBERS (GAME 2)
- Hinson finished game two a perfect 3-for-3, including a pair of doubles. She added a run scored in the victory.
