Saints Stumble vs Concordia Chicago and Hiram on Day 3 of The Spring Games
CLERMONT, Fla. - The Emmanuel College softball team fell to Concordia University Chicago, 5-0, and to Hiram College, 9-2, Wednesday afternoon in Day 3 action of The Spring Games at Legends Way Complex.

THE LEAD: The Emmanuel College softball team fell to Concordia University Chicago, 5-0, and to Hiram College, 9-2, Wednesday afternoon in Day 3 action of The Spring Games at Legends Way Complex.
HOW IT HAPPENED (GM 1 vs. Concordia)
- Holly Bathje (David Junction, Ill.) tossed a complete-game shutout, striking out 11 Saints to improve to 2-1 on the year scattering just three hits in the win.
- An RBI double in the second by Becky Pieroni (Montgomery, Ill.) proved to be the only run the Cougars would need, taking an early 1-0 lead.
- Concordia added five runs in the fifth to open the lead to 5-0 with RBI singles by Tegan Oas (Shingle Springs, Calif.) and Carole Ross (Whittier, Calif.) in the frame to build the 5-0 lead and Bathje made it hold up allowing just one hit over the final two frames.
INSIDE THE NUMBERS (GM 1)
- Ashley Shroll (Tampa, Fla.) was the only player on either side that collected two hits on the day, going 2-for-3 for Concordia.
- EC junior Tianna Dawe (Peabody, Mass.) suffered the loss to fall to 0-3 on the year.
- Emmanuel sophomore shortstop Olivia Conti (Cranston, R.I.) saw her 22-game hitting streak dating back to last season come to an end, matching the program record of 22 games to share the lead with Catherine Davis '16.
HOW IT HAPPENED (GM 2 vs. Hiram)
- Hiram jumped out to a 3-0 lead in the third to take the lead for good on a two-RBI single up the middle by Giselle Bahena (Pomona, Calif.).
- The Saints cut into the deficit, plating a pair of unearned runs in the fourth to make it a 3-2 game on an RBI single by junior outfielder Jadynne Hill (Haverhill, Mass.) before senior catcher Avery Webb (Hollis, N.H.) scored on a throwing error to account for the second Emmanuel run.
- The Terriers answered getting the two right back in the fifth to open a 5-2 advantage and then added three unearned insurance runs in the sixth to bump the lead to 8-2 before tacking on the final run in the seventh to account for the 9-2 final.
INSIDE THE NUMBERS (GM 2)
- Angel Santellan (Lawndale, Calif.) earned the win in relief to improve to 2-0 on the year, tossing 3 2/3 innings of scoreless relief, scattering three hits while striking out three. The starter Trinity Meza (Los Banos, Calif.) did not factor into the decision but threw well for Hiram, going 3 1/3 innings of one-hit ball, allowing the two unearned runs.
- EC first year Brenna Whittaker (Cranston, R.I.) suffered the loss to move to 1-1 on the year, surrendering eight runs (five earned) on seven hits.
- Junior Julyanne Pacheco (Somerset, Mass.) was the only Saint with two hits in the defeat, going 2-for-3 out of the No. 2 spot in the batting order.
