CLERMONT, Fla. - Sophomore pitcher Caitlin Dems (Mentor, Ohio) tossed a complete game three-hit shutout to lead Heidelberg University over Emmanuel College, 13-0 (5 inn.), on Monday afternoon in Day 2 action of The Spring Games.

THE LEAD: Sophomore pitcher Caitlin Dems (Mentor, Ohio) tossed a complete game three-hit shutout to lead Heidelberg University over Emmanuel College, 13-0 (5 inn.), on Monday afternoon in Day 2 action of The Spring Games.
HOW IT HAPPENED
- Heidelberg jumped out to a 3-0 lead in the second fueled by a two-RBI double to left by first year Kalli Sowers (Willard, Ohio) to get on the board early.
- The Saints had a two-out rally brewing in the bottom half of the second but stranded two and made the final out of the inning at home to keep the deficit at three heading into the third.
- The Student Princes broke the game open in the fourth with four more runs to move the lead to 7-0.Sophomore Kirsten Kracht (Delaware, Ohio), junior Hannah Blasinsky (Willoughby, Ohio) and sophomore Emma Dean (Pickerington, Ohio) all had RBI singles in the frame while sophomore Murissa Drown (Fremont, Ohio) capped the inning's scoring with an RBI double.
- HU tacked on six more runs in the fifth to invoke the run-rule, moving the score to the 13-0 final. The inning was highlighted by a two-RBI double by junior Meghan Bame (Westerville, Ohio) that missed a homerun by two feet, hitting off the upper third of the six foot left-centerfield fence.
INSIDE THE NUMBERS
- Drown ended the day going 3-for-4 at the plate with an RBI and two doubles while Sowers went 2-for-2 with two doubles, RBI's and runs scored.
- HU first year Gabbie Stallbaum (Paulding, Ohio) also went 2-for-2 with a pair of runs scored.
- Dems went the distance for the Student Princes allowing just three hits over five innings of work, striking out six to improve to 1-1 on the year in the circle.
- EC junior Tianna Dawe (Peabody, Mass.) suffered the loss, allowing 11 runs (10 earned) over four innings of work to fall to 0-2 on the season.
- Sophomore Olivia Conti (Cranston, R.I.), junior Julyanne Pacheco (Somerset, Mass.), senior Renae Lacroix (Cumberland, R.I.) collected the three EC hits in the loss.
