Senior Spotlight Series - Sarah Hoisl - Softball
With the sudden end to the 2020 spring seasons due to the CoVID19 epidemic, the Emmanuel College Athletic Department wanted to take a moment to recognize members of the class of 2020 during the final semester of their senior season at Emmanuel College. The Senior Spotlight Series was a chance for our community as Saints to give each of these individuals the notoriety and recognition they all deserve while getting a little behind the scenes glimpse into their lives outside the uniform.
Senior Spotlight Series (SSS)
With the sudden end to the 2020 spring seasons due to the CoVID19 epidemic, the Emmanuel College Athletic Department wanted to take a moment to recognize members of the class of 2020 during the final semester of their senior season at Emmanuel College. The Senior Spotlight Series was a chance for our community as Saints to give each of these individuals the notoriety and recognition they all deserve while getting a little behind the scenes glimpse into their lives outside the uniform.
Participation in this series was optional and we're grateful to have heard from so many wonderful representatives from our senior class. While their careers at Emmanuel may be coming to a close, their lives as Saints are just beginning.
Let's meet today's featured student-athlete!

SSS Q&A
1) What was your favorite memory related to your softball experience?
My favorite memory related to sports would be my sophomore year. We were ranked 7 and had to play in a play in game to get into the playoffs. We ended up making it to championship Sunday. We were the only ones who believed we could make it that far and that is all we needed.
2) Favorite pre-game playlist song?
Dreams and Nightmares - Meek Mills
3) Proudest athletic accomplishment/achievement at Emmanuel?
My favorite accomplishment was receiving all Conference as a junior last year.
4) What game/opponent did you always look forward to every season?
I love playing Simmons and Suffolk. They are both known teams in the conference for softball and usually make it pretty far into the playoffs. They always give us a run for our money. They are both very close to home and we know many of the girls on both teams so it is always a very exciting match up.
5) Other than your own sport/team, what was your favorite EC athletic program to support and why?
I loved watching women's and mens basketball. The women are always very successful so that is always fun to watch. The men always make it a close game and fight hard, so it makes for a fun atmosphere.
6) One thing you'll miss the most about being on the softball team at EC?
My softball team was the best support system and best friends that a girl could ask for. I spent a lot of my time on campus with them. They cared about me as a person and a player and they will be forever friends. Nothing felt better then winning big games with them, because they played with their whole hearts every match up.
7) Tell us something most people probably don't know about you that relates to your sport.
I am super superstitious. Every game since freshman year I have done the same thing before the game, ate the same thing, talked to the same people, sat in the same places. In my bag I have things saved from little league travel softball, Florida trips, etc. I have not changed my pre game routine since high school.
8) Give one shout out/thank you to someone who impacted your EC Athletic experience.
I would have to say thank you to Coach Olivia. She has been the best support system while being at Emmanuel. She does things behind the scenes for us consistently and never has ever given up on us. I would also say thank you to the seniors. Yolo and Kerry have been there since day 1, they have been there for all the ups and the downs. They always have the right thing to say and know how to push me more then anyone.
9) What are your post-grad plans?
I'm either going to work as a Special Education teacher in Boston Public Schools, or I am going to go to grad school at Boston College.
10) Give some advice or words of wisdom to future Saints.
The advice that I would give to incoming students and athletes would be do not take a single second for granted. things can be going so well and then taken from you in a second. As a second semester senior who not only got their season taken, but also the last semester on Campus, you really have to cherish all the time you have at EC. Athletics at EC are something really special and you only get four years to be a college athlete, it will fly by, but nothing will be better then college sports, so have fun and don't take a single thing for granted.
Thank you, Sarah for your commiment and dedication to Emmanuel College Athletics and the Softball program! Check back in every Tuesday and Thursday for more content from the Senior Spotlight Series!
