BOSTON, Mass. – Emmanuel College freshman pitcher Jill Kilcoyne (Worcester, Mass.) has been named the Great Northeast Athletic Conference Co-Pitcher of the Week, it was announced earlier today by the conference office. This marks the second time this season that an Emmanuel pitcher has earned the honor as sophomore Val Kiers (West Warwick, R.I.) was tabbed the Pitcher of the Week back during the Week 1 Report.
This past week, Kilcoyne threw four complete games, including pitching a PERFECT game on Saturday afternoon in a win over Anna Maria. She went 2-2 on the week with a 1.46 ERA, leading the Saints to their first playoff appearance since the 2004 season. The rookie struck out 31 batters and gave up just 14 hits in 24 innings pitched this week.
On the year, Kilcoyne has been the Saints ace and currently leads the GNAC with 145 strikeouts. Her 1.52 ERA ranks third in the GNAC to go along with a 10-8 overall record.
Kilcoyne shared this week's honor with Mount Ida College's freshman pitcher Nicole Handzel.
Emmanuel earned its first GNAC playoff berth since 2004, earning the No. 8 seed in this week's tournament. The Saints are visiting Suffolk University this afternoon in the 5 vs. 8 matchup, with the winner advancing to the double-loss elimination portion of the conference tournament taking place later in the week.
