MYRTLE BEACH, S.C. – The Emmanuel College softball downed Eureka College, 6-2, Tuesday morning in Day 3 action at the Fast Pitch Dreams Classic. The win bumps the Saints record to 2-3 on the year while the loss is the first for the Red Devils who fall to 3-1 on the year.

EC jumped out to an early 1-0 lead, manufacturing a run with the Wethersfield connection. Sophomore shortstop Catherine Davis (Wethersfield, Conn.) led off the game with a single and two batters later, freshman first baseman Susie Keiselback (Wethersfield, Conn.) drove her in with a single to right.
The Saints stayed hot in the second inning, scoring three more runs to jump in front 4-0. Senior catcher Julia Levins (Uxbridge, Mass.) got things started with a bunt single. Senior third baseman Kayla Howard (Belmont, N.H.) followed up with a single to left before sophomore second baseman Karianne Vulpis (East Rockaway, N.Y.) walked to load the bases. An RBI single to centerfield by Davis followed by an RBI single to left by senior designated player Jennifer Garrity (Lynn, Mass.) made it 3-0. Keiselback drove in the final run of the inning on a sacrifice fly, plating Howard to make it 4-0.
Eureka got a pair back in the fourth to cut the Saints lead to 4-2. Senior Emily Campbell (Pontiac, Ill.) led off the frame with a double to the wall and would come around the score on an RBI ground out by junior Sam Remmert (Princeville, Ill.). Pinch runner Grace Mahasi (Peoria, Ill.) also scored on the play, coming around from first with the help of an Emmanuel throwing miscue.
Emmanuel added two insurance runs in the sixth inning as Davis knocked a 2-RBI double to left to bump the Saints lead to 6-2.
After Eureka loaded the bases in the top of the seventh, freshman pitcher Jill Kilcoyne (Worcester, Mass.) worked her way out of the jam to retire the side and preserve the 6-2 win, her first collegiate victory on the mound. Junior pitcher Jodi Bowen (Metamore, Ill.) suffered the loss and falls to 2-1 on the year.
Davis finished the game going 3-4 with three RBI while Kieselback was 2-3 with two RBI. Howard chipped in with two hits and two runs.
The Saints return to action tomorrow when they take on Cazenovia College at 11:30 AM.
