GARRITY & DAVIS EARN ALL-GNAC SOFTBALL HONORS
BOSTON, Mass. – Emmanuel College freshman shortstop Catherine Davis (Wethersfield, Conn.) and junior pitcher/outfielder Jennifer Garrity (Lynn, Mass.) have been named to the 2013 Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) Softball Second Team, announced by the conference office earlier today.
BOSTON, Mass. – Emmanuel College freshman shortstop Catherine Davis (Wethersfield, Conn.) and junior pitcher/outfielder Jennifer Garrity (Lynn, Mass.) have been named to the 2013 Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) Softball Second Team, announced by the conference office earlier today.
Garrity contributed in major ways for the Saints offensively in the 2013 season. The junior played in 40 games on the season, and compiled a solid .367 batting average which was good enough for second on the team. The Lynn, Mass. native also contributed offensively by adding 28 RBI's for the season, which was also good for second on the team. Garrity had 44 hits on the season, including a home run and seven doubles. In a crucial match-up with Lasell College on April 14th, Garrity contributed with two hits, a run scored, two RBI's and a homerun to help guide the Saints to a 5-4 victory. The junior also helped Emmanuel on the mound, pitching in five games for 11 innings on the season, including one complete game on the season.
Garrity has been a major contributor for the Emmanuel Saints since joining the program in 2011. Over the course of her career, Garrity has appeared in 90 games, 81 of which she has been called upon as a starter. In three seasons, the outfielder has batted .303 for her career. In 238 trips to the plate, Garrity has connected for 72 hits. Additionally, she has contributed with 11 doubles, two homeruns, and 44 RBI's. Garrity has also been solid for the Saints defensively, only committing six errors in her 90 appearances, for an impressive field percentage of .959 overall. She has also has contributed with 40 assists from her outfield position over the course of her career.
Davis, a freshman shortstop, led the Saints in several offensive categories after wrapping up an impressive first-year campaign. The rookie led Emmanuel offensively, hitting an incredible .432 for the year. The freshman scored a team best 35 runs, while also contributing a team leading 30 RBI's for the season. Davis hit for nine doubles, five triples, and four HR's on the year, and led the team with a .667 slugging percentage as well as a .483 on-base percentage. Her 57 hits ranked second-most in EC program history while ranking fourth overall in the GNAC in 2013. During the year, Davis also compiled a 22-game hitting streak from March 24 through April 13. Additionally, Davis was a threat on the bases, stealing 16 times on the year which was good enough for second on the team. The Wethersfield, Conn. native was solid in the field as well, turning five double plays from her shortstop position, adding 89 assists and putting together a .925 field percentage on the season. On the season, Davis was named to the GNAC Honor Roll four times, being name Rookie of the Week on three occasions, and garnering honorable mention on another.
Emmanuel finished the season with an overall record of 14-26, including a GNAC record of 5-19 on year. The Saints will look to build off of the 2013 season, in which they doubled their total in wins from seven to 14. The young team will return 12 players for the 2014 season, and hope to make a push for the GNAC playoffs.
