SAINTS SWEEP BUCCANEERS IN NON-LEAGUE DOUBLE-HEADER
BUZZARDS BAY, Mass. - Freshman Kerianne Vulpis (East Rockaway, N.Y.) rapped out five hits and drove in six runs to lead Emmanuel to a sweep of a non-league college softball doubleheader from Massachusetts Maritime Academy on Tuesday afternoon by scores of 17-0 in the opener and 16-2 in the nightcap. The two five-inning contests were played at Alison Rollins Field.

The two five-inning contests were played at Alison Rollins Field.
Freshman Catherine Davis (Wethersfield, Conn.) added three hits, five RBI and four stolen bases in the sweep for the visiting Saints (10-18), who took a 5-0 lead through three innings of the opener before taking control with an 11-run fourth inning outburst. Junior Kayla Howard (Belmont, N.H.) and sophomore Alex Bressette (North Easton, Mass.) combined to drive in seven runs in the lid-lifter for Emmanuel in support of senior Kelly Lloid (Issaquah, Wash.), who scattered a pair of hits and struck out seven to pick up her fifth win of the season inside the circle.
Seniors Janelle Beaulieu (Buzzards Bay, Mass.) and Rachel Johnson (South Chatham, Mass.) each rapped out singles in the opening game setback for the host Buccaneers (0-8), as Beaulieu went the distance on the mound.
Emmanuel used a pair of six-run rallies in the opening two frames to take control of the nightcap, as Vulpis and Davis combined for four hits and nine RBI while freshman Marianne Halas (Lynn, Mass.) added three hits for the Saints in support of freshman Val Kiers (West Warwick, R.I.), who allowed three hits and an earned run while fanning four to also collect her fifth triumph.
Massachusetts Maritime plated both of its runs in the bottom of the first on an error and senior Erin Eastman's (Harwich, Mass.) RBI single, as Beaulieu and freshman Alyssa Lebo (Oklahoma City, Okla.) also collected hits in the second outing for the Buccaneers. Freshman Cassie Swanson (Quincy, Mass.) went the first four frames on the mound for the hosts in collecting a strikeout.
Massachusetts Maritime hosts Becker in a non-league doubleheader on Thursday afternoon at Alison Rollins Field beginning at 3:30 p.m., while Emmanuel heads across Boston to take on Emerson in a Great Northeast Athletic Conference twinbill on Friday afternoon that begins at 3:00 p.m.
