MCKENNA NAMED ALL-NEW ENGLAND
Apr. 14, 2009
Emmanuel's Kate McKenna was named New England Women's Intercollegiate Soccer Association (NEWISA) 1st Team All-New England. She is Emmanuel's first student-athlete to garner this honor. Last fall, the junior midfielder led the Saints to an appearance in the Great Northeast Athletic Conference's championship game and to the program's 1st-ever Eastern Collegiate Athletic Conference Tournament (ECAC) bid. McKenna and the Saints upset Fitchburg State College and advanced to the ECAC semifinals.
McKenna has been a GNAC All-Conference and Academic All-Conference pick for the past two years. In 2008, the Holyoke, Mass. native. was named to the GNAC Weekly Honor Roll, the GNAC All-Tournament Team, and was nominated for ESPN The Magazine Academic All-American.
McKenna started in all 23 of her games played this past season. She was second on the Saints in points scored, goals scored, and assists. Her team went 14-9 overall and 9-3 in GNAC play. The returning captain will look to lead her squad to the program's second GNAC Championship, as the Saints play on Emmanuel's new home turf field in 2009.
