BOSTON – Saints graduate student Catherine Manning (Peabody, Mass.), senior Lily Tobin (Hanover, Mass.), junior Rachel Harrington (Lebanon, N.H.), and sophomores Annebel Balogh de Galantha (Grafton, Mass.), Maya Daryanani (Raynham, Mass.), and Eva Simmons (Charlestown, R.I.) have all been named to the College Sports Communicators Division III Women's Soccer Academic All-District Team, as announced by the CSC on Nov. 21.
The CSC recently updated its criteria for nomination and selection to the All-District Teams. Among the changes was that nominated student-athletes must compete in 90 percent of a team's matches or start in at least 66 percent of contests throughout the year. The previous threshold for nomination was at least 50 percent of games played, provided the player was used in a significant role.
Manning, Harrington, Balogh de Galantha, and Daryanani played in all 21 matches for Emmanuel this past year while Tobin and Simmons played in 20 matches to surpass the 90 percent criteria needed for nomination to the Academic All-District squad.
Familiar criteria remained in place as nominees must still be a sophomore in academic standing and hold a 3.50 cumulative GPA. Graduate students, such as Manning, are judged based on their final undergraduate cumulative GPA for nomination until a new graduate program GPA has been established.
Unlike in past years, the nomination to the Academic All-District team does not necessarily move a student-athlete into consideration for the Academic All-American® ballot. A committee, comprised of Academic All-American® Core Members and members from the CSC will determine which athletes move to the All-American ballot.
Once the ballot is released, CSC members have until Dec. 5 to vote for Academic All-Americans®. The CSC will announce the Academic All-American® First, Second, and Third Teams on Wednesday, Dec. 20.
