BOSTON- The Emmanuel College Women's Soccer team closed out regular season play in a 7-0 senior night shutout, under the lights, against Rivier University at Roberto Clemente Field. The Saints finish out the regular season at an impressive 14-1 in Great Northeast Athletic Conference play and 16-2 overall. Rivier closes out this season 8-5-2 in GNAC play and 9-6-3 overall.
Prior to the match, Emmanuel celebrated the careers of Class of 2024 members Lily Tobin (Hanover, Mass.), Adeline LeGault (Farmington, Conn.), Sophie Patterson (Scituate, Mass.), Melissa Mauro (Old Lyme, Conn.), and Rory Mahoney (Quincy, Mass.), in a Senior Night ceremony.
The Saints started hot after first-year Ciara Horan (Braintree, Mass.) found an open Maya Daryanani (Raynham, Mass.) for a first-minute goal. The scoring continued just nine minutes later after sophomore, Sarah Dullaghan (Belmont, Mass.) scored her first of two goals on the night, assisted by Horan. The scoring cooled off for the remainder of the first half where the Saints could not find the back of the net on five shots.
The Saints began the second half quickly with Horan scoring a 52nd minute goal, assisted by Tobin. The first-year forward found the back of the net again in the 57th minute after Rivier's goalie, Maya Puma (Tyngsborough, Mass.) left her goal and Horan was able to beat her defender.
The scoring continued for the Saints, after a well-placed pass from Dullaghan that Rachel Harrington (Lebanon, N.H.) fired on.
In the 70th minute, Kaelyn Briscoe got one to the back of the net on an assist from Harrington for the sixth goal of the evening. Dullaghan connected on her second goal of the night on an assist from Mauro for her 18th of the season.
Sophomore Gaby Baker (Grafton, Mass.) had a very quiet night in the goal tonight thanks to a good defensive effort from the Saints resulting in Rivier only getting one shot off in the match.
This game concludes the regular season for the Saints with GNAC playoffs beginning on Saturday, Oct. 28, with an opponent yet to be determined.
