NEW LONDON, Conn. – Saints sophomore Sarah Dullaghan (Belmont, Mass.) became the fourth player in program history to net four goals in a single match, leading the Saints to a 7-0 victory on Saturday afternoon over Mitchell in Great Northeast Athletic Conference play.
Dullaghan joins Vicky Shalian ('01), Mikayla Guthrie ('19), and senior Adeline LeGault (Farmington, Conn.) as the only others in program history with a four-goal match. Shalian has six such instances of scoring at least four goals while Guthrie and LeGault each have one occasion with at least four goals in a single game.
The 13th regular season win over a GNAC opponent is a new program record, besting the 2007 team that finished 12-0-1 against GNAC foes in the regular season.
LeGault got the scoring started just two minutes into the match with her second goal of the season. Senior Melissa Mauro (Old Lyme, Conn.) sent in a cross from the right-wing that skipped through the box and onto a crashing LeGault. The forward one-timed a shot into the top of the net to open the scoring.
Dullaghan scored the next three for the Saints, all in the first half. The second-year forward picked up a pair of unassisted tallies in the 14th and 19th minute before finishing off her hat trick in the 37th minute with an assist from junior Kaelyn Briscoe (Walpole, Mass.).
First-year Kayla Francillon (Medford, Mass.) netted her first career collegiate goal in the 56th minute. Sophomore Maya Daryanani (Raynham, Mass.) scored her eighth of the year in the 71st minute. Dullaghan capped off the scoring just four minutes later in the 75th with her fourth of the day, leading the Saints to their largest win of the season.
Sophomore goalie Gaby Baker (Grafton, Mass.) earned the win for the Saints, recording a clean sheet, and making eight saves along the way. The victory moves Baker to 14-2 overall this season, matching the single-season wins record for a goalie.
Mitchell first-year Morgan Fontaine (Cheshire, Conn.) got off a team-high three shots, two of them on goal, and senior Elon Johnson (Freeport, BHS) also managed two shots on net. Junior goalkeeper Gemma Landry (Lewiston, Maine) finished with double-digit saves for the sixth time this season, turning away a season-high 19 shots.
The Saints (15-2, 13-1 GNAC) finish the regular season with a Monday, Oct. 23 match against Rivier at 7:00 p.m. on Clemente Field. The Saints will celebrate the Class of 2024 prior to the match. The Mariners (4-11-1, 2-11-1 GNAC) finish their regular season with New England College on Oct. 24 at 4:00 p.m.
