BOSTON - Emmanuel College Women's Soccer defeated The University of Saint Joseph (CT) Blue Jays in a 7:00pm Great Northeast Athletic Conference matchup by a score of 2-1. After the chippy Wednesday night victory, the Saints move to a four-game win streak. This boosts the women to 12-1 in conference play, while the USJ Blue Jay's drop to 8-3-2.
The first half of the match was quiet on both ends, where the Saints got off five shots and the Bluejays tallied just three. The few shots on goal kept the score knotted at zero by the end of the half.
Sophomore Sarah Dullaghan (Belmont, Mass.) opened the scoring in the 49th minute of play in what would become a physical second half. Dullaghan was able to pull the USJ goalie from the goal to sneak one between the posts. This goal comes off a well-placed assist from Senior Adeline LeGault (Farmington, Conn.) in her first game back after missing the previous 12 matches. The Blue Jays equalized with a 62nd minute goal from junior midfielder, Jenna Zup (Berlin, Conn.) where she was able to beat her defender from an assist from Alana Picard (Windsor Locks, Conn.).
11 minutes later, defender, Annebel Balogh de Galantha (Grafton, Mass.) fired a free kick from the left side of Emmanuel's attacking third over the USJ goalie, Madison Corcoran (Bristol, Conn.), to find the back of the net and give the Saints a 2-1 edge in the match. The sophomore's fourth goal of the season was the difference in the match as scoring was kept quiet for the remaining minutes thanks to a staunch Saints defense. Corcoran picked up the loss in this match, while Saints goalie, Gaby Baker (Grafton, Mass.), improved to an impressive 11-1 GNAC record with a five save match.
The Saints look to continue their win streak, this Saturday (10/21) at 1:00PM, as they travel to Mitchell College for their second to last match of the 2023 conference season. The University of Saint Joseph will make a trek to Norwich, VT to take on the Norwich University Cadets Saturday at 12:00PM.
