NEW LONDON, N.H. - Emmanuel women's soccer picked up a 2-1 victory on Saturday afternoon at Colby-Sawyer, keeping the Saints in second place in the Great Northeast Athletic Conference standings following the win.
Rapid Recap:
- The Saints jumped out early as Sarah Dullaghan scored quickly on a pass by Ciara Horan just 2:39 into the game. Dullaghan tried to double the score in the 4th minute but this time graduate student Alexis LeBreton (Bangor, Maine) made the save. The Saints and Chargers continued to battle back and forth each taking five shots in the final minutes, but none would find the target to keep the visitors up 1-0.
- Emmanuel used a second quick score in the 46th minute as Horan finished a goal by Lily Tobin to double the lead up. Junior Halle Pletzer (Barre, Vt.) and senior Kara Keiper (Peterborough, N.H.) each took the first on target shots for the Chargers in the 47th minute, but Gaby Baker made back-to-back saves. Senior Sam Bishop (Windham, N.H.) had the next chance in the 61st minute but Baker made another good save to keep the lead. Colby-Sawyer got on the score sheet in the 86th minute as junior Bridget O'Connell (Peabody, Mass.) finished a beautiful cross by sophomore Lauren Ardolino (Milford, Conn.) to cut the lead in half. The Chargers unfortunately could not get another chance in the final five minutes as the Saints pulled out the win.
Inside the Numbers:
- O'Connell led the offense again with her conference leading 16th goal of the season. Bridget now sits one goal shy of Lisa McNamara's program record 17 goals in the 2000 season. O'Connell also is two points from breaking the single points record in a season also held by McNamara (38).
- Ardolino picked up her first collegiate point with the assist.
- LeBreton picked up the loss making a save in 55 minutes. First year Lyndsey Valletta (Macedon, N.Y.) came in for the final 34 minutes without registering a stat.
- The Chargers fell to fifth place in the GNAC playoff race with 25 points. Colby-Sawyer trails Johnson & Wales (36), Emmanuel (30), Lasell (26) and University of Saint Joseph (Conn.) (26) with three games to play in conference play.
