FRANKLIN, Mass. – A team-effort of goalscoring led Emmanuel (4-0 GNAC) past Dean College (2-2-1 GNAC) 6-1 on Wednesday afternoon in GNAC action at Longley Athletic Complex. The Saints overcame an early 1-0 deficit before scoring six unanswered on their way to a 5th consecutive victory.
The Bulldogs of Dean jumped out to a lead in the 6th minute of play when Lisette Ayala (Chicopee, Mass.) pounced on a Saints miscue in their own 18-yard box and found the back of the net. It was Ayala's second goal of the season.
From then on, the Saints took control of the match. In the 14th minute, Sophomore midfielder Liz McCormick (Cumberland, R.I.) rebounded her own blocked shot and beat Bulldog goalkeeper Haley Gaunt (Johnston, R.I.) to equalize. It was McCormick's 3rd goal of the season, surpassing her 2022 goalscoring total just six completed matches into the 2023 campaign.
Nine minutes later, a cross from Ciara Horan (Braintree, Mass.) found Maya Daryanani (Raynham, Mass.) in front of goal who fired the ball into the back of the net and gave Emmanuel a 2-1 lead. The Saints would go on to add three more goals from Rachel Harrington (Lebanon, N.H.), Annebel Balogh de Galantha (Grafton, Mass.) via a stunning free-kick from just outside the 18-yard box, and Kaelyn Briscoe (Walople, Mass.) in a headed effort from a corner kick to take a 5-1 advantage before the break.
The Saints continued to put pressure on the Bulldogs throughout the second half. Horan added to the final tally with just over twelve minutes left to play and became Emmanuel's sixth separate goal scorer of the match.
Emmanuel would finish the match totaling 33 shots with 21 on target. Dean goalkeepers Haley Gaunt and Lexi Gerow (Pownal, Vt.) combined for 15 saves in the match.
Dean College will continue GNAC play when they travel to New England College this Saturday for a 1 p.m. matchup. Emmanuel College returns to Clemente Field this Saturday when they face fellow Colleges of the Fenway partner and GNAC foe Simmons University at 12 p.m.
