MEDFORD, Mass. – Three goals in each half for the Saints, including tallies by six different players, helped Emmanuel Women's Soccer to its first win of the 2023 campaign, following a 6-0 win on Sunday afternoon over Fisher College at Hormel Stadium.
The scoring started early for the Saints, as they quickly took a 2-0 lead on goals scored 25 seconds apart by sophomores Maya Daryanani (Raynham, Mass.) and Liz McCormick (Cumberland, R.I.).
Daryanani scored her first of the season thanks to a pass out of the midfield that allowed her to make an attacking run into the box. After battling through a Falcons defender, Daryanani settled the ball and poked a right-footed shot into the net from just six yards out, giving EC a 1-0 edge.
On the ensuing kickoff, the Saints high press quickly forced a turnover, leading McCormick to double the advantage. After a cutback near the top-left corner of the penalty area, McCormick turned toward goal and fired a shot into the top-left corner from 18 yards out, giving Emmanuel a 2-0 lead.
Later in the first half, a cross in from near the right corner bounced perfectly to sophomore Sarah Dullaghan (Belmont, Mass.), who redirected a close-range header into the goal for a 3-0 lead.
After holding the 3-0 lead into the middle of the second half, the Saints would add three more goals over the next 20 minutes to seal the win.
Sophomore Annebel Balogh de Galantha (Grafton, Mass.) scored a header off a corner kick in the 65th minute. Senior Adeline LeGault (Farmington, Conn.) scored her first of the season in the 79th minute, upping the lead to 5-0.
First-year Libby Tennant (West Simsbury, Conn.) finished off the scoring with her first career collegiate goal in the 85th minute, resulting in the Saints 6-0 win.
All three second half goals included assists, coming from senior Lily Tobin (Hanover, Mass.), McCormick, and sophomore Sydney Gonzalez (Guilderland, N.Y.).
Sophomore goalie Gaby Baker (Grafton, Mass.) made one save on the afternoon while earning her first career collegiate victory, improving to 1-1 this season.
The Saints head into Great Northeast Athletic Conference play in their next appearance, traveling to Regis on Sept. 6 for a 7:30 p.m. kickoff. The Falcons are also back in action on Sept. 6, making the trip to Lyndon State for a 4:00 p.m. match.
