THE LEAD – Junior forward Addie LeGault (Farmington, Conn.) scored a pair of goals to lift Emmanuel College past host Norwich University, 3-0, Saturday evening in Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) women's soccer action at Sabine Field.
HOW IT HAPPENED
- EC took a 1-0 lead on LeGault's eighth goal of the year in the 14th minute of the opening half. Senior forward Megan McMillen (North Branford, Conn.) fired a shot from the right wing off the crossbar that LeGault cleaned up for her first score of the night.
- EC controlled the action during the first half, outshooting the Cadets by an 11-3 margin.
- LeGault doubled up the Saints lead just 1:20 into the second half with her team-leading ninth goal on an unassisted finish to make it a 2-0 score.
- With 16:14 to play in regulation, the Saints had what appeared to be a breakaway where junior forward Brooklynn Ortiz (South Portland, Maine) was pulled down in the box on a foul that would result in a penalty kick. Following a brief conversation between the center official and the AR, the foul was negated on an offside call to thwart the scoring opportunity.
- The Saints sealed the win in the 89th minute as first year Liz McCormick (Cumberland, R.I.) took a through-ball from Ortiz in for the Saints third goal of the night to account for the 3-0 final.
INSIDE THE NUMBERS
- The game-winner was the sixth of LeGault's career, moving her into a tie for 10th all-time in program history with Katie Baribeault '03 and Mikayla Guthrie '19.
- The 9-1-1 (.864) record is the best start in program history through 11 matches for the Saints.
- First year goalie Patricia Kirejczyk (Ansonia, Conn.) posted the shutout, the team's eighth of the season, making one save to improve to 8-0 in net.
- NU sophomore keeper Rebecca Karis (Fayetteville, N.C.) made eight saves for the Cadets in the loss.
