THE LEAD – First year forward Sarah Dullaghan (Belmont, Mass.) was the lone goal-scorer on Saturday afternoon, powering the Emmanuel College women's soccer team past Dean College by a 1-0 final at Roberto Clemente Field in Great Northeast Athletic Conference action.
HOW IT HAPPENED
- Despite controlling the action throughout the first half, the Saints were unable to find the back of the net until the 36th minute of action when junior forward Addie LeGault (Farmington, Mass.) played a low cross in front of the goal to Dullaghan who jammed home her seventh goal of the season to put EC on top, 1-0.
- Less than two minutes later, the Saints appeared to double their lead as first year Sydney Sears (Jericho, Vt.) played a perfect cross into the box that Dullaghan headed home for what looked to be her second goal of the afternoon but it was whistled back as the AR official had his flag up for the offsides call.
- Emmanuel outshot the Bulldogs by a 10-1 margin in the half and attempted seven corners compared to none by the visitors.
- The Saints continues to own the possession through the early goings of the second half, not allowing another Dean shot attempt until the 69th minute of play when Lea Bettencourt (Peabody, Mass.) sent a right-footed strike wide of the frame.
- EC had another great chance to bump the lead up to two in the 71st minute on another cross deep into the box that sophomore Kaelyn Briscoe (Walpole, Mass.) headed into the goal but once again the goal was erased by an offsides flag to keep the score locked at 1-0.
- Down the stretch, the Emmanuel backline showed no signs of distress as the hosts held on for the 1-0 shutout win to improve to 3-1 in GNAC action on the year.
