THE LEAD – Emmanuel College played Nichols College to a 0-0 draw in non-conference women's soccer action on Tuesday evening at Roberto Clemente Field.
HOW IT HAPPENED
- The opening half featured the Saints with a 6-2 advantage in shots with Emmanuel first year keeper Sandra Griffith (Roland, Ark.) and Nichols senior goalie Saige Frazier (Uxbridge, Mass.) each making one save in the frame.
- EC junior forward Addie LeGault (Farmington, Conn.) had the best scoring chance of the half just eight minutes into the action, getting behind the Bison back four only to be denied by Frazier on the semi-breakaway.
- The Saints controlled the action most of the second half, outshooting Nichols by an 11-5 margin including five scoring opportunities on frame.
- First year Sarah Dullaghan (Belmont, Mass.) had a great look with 10:24 remaining in regulation but Frazier held her ground to keep the score locked at 0-0.
- The visitors gave the hosts a scare in the final seconds of play as first year forward Falyn Hunt (Saugus, Mass.) received a through ball from the midfield to set up a break away but Griffith came off her line to make a diving save just before time expired to preserve the 0-0 draw.
INSIDE THE NUMBERS
- The match was just the third career meeting between the programs with the Saints owning the all-time series with a 2-0-1 mark.
- Griffith finished the night with three saves to earn her first collegiate solo shutout while Frazier made six stops to also post the clean sheet.
- Dullaghan was held scoreless for the first time since the season-opener, ending a five-match scoring streak.
- Emmanuel owned a 3-1 edge in corner kicks, all coming in the second half.
- The 0-0 draw in the first for the program since a 0-0 final last year on Sept. 8 vs. Wentworth Institute of Technology.
