THE LEAD – Junior forward Addie LeGault (Farmington, Conn.) scored two goals to go along with an assist to power Emmanuel College past Wentworth Institute of Technology, 6-1, Tuesday evening in non-conference women's soccer action at Roberto Clemente Field.
HOW IT HAPPENED
- Following 21 minutes of scoreless action, the Saints got on the board first on senior Catherine Manning's (Peabody, Mass.) second goal of the season coming off a well-placed header off a Liz McCormick () corner kick to put the hosts ahead, 1-0.
- It remained a one-goal game until the 41st minute of play when LeGault beat the Leopards back line on the right side of the pitch before dropping off a cross to the top of the box for first year midfielder Maya Daryanani (Bridgewater, Mass.). Daryanani drilled a one-time volley into the back of the net for her first collegiate strike to put EC on top 2-0 heading into the half.
- Despite owning the two-goal advantage at the break, the Saints were outshot by the Leopards by an 8-5 margin in the opening half.
- Emmanuel put the game out of reach early in the second stanza as LeGault found the back of the net twice in the 54th and 58th minutes of play to bump the lead to 4-0. Her first score came off a cross from junior Rory Mahoney (Quincy, Mass.) before the second tally was assisted by junior Melissa Mauro (Old Lyme, Conn.) off a throw in.
- First year Sarah Dullaghan (Belmont, Mass.) got into the scoring column for her second goal of the season, finishing off a through-ball from senior midfielder Sophia Chirigotis (Merrimac, Mass.) with 22:20 left in the match.
- The Leopards thwarted the Saints chance for a clean sheet in the 75th minute following a failed Emmanuel clear that first year Avril Quiroga (Santo Domingo, Dominican Republic) cleaned up for her collegiate tally to cut the score to 5-1.
- With 39 seconds remaining, McCormick found the back of the net for her first collegiate goal directly off a free-kick from 30 yards out, finishing in the upper 90 of the right hand side of the net to account for the 6-1 final.
INSIDE THE NUMBERS
- EC finished the game with a 15-12 edge in shots while both teams had just one corner attempt with the Saints converting on the cross.
- First year goalie Patricia Kirejczyk (Ansonia, Conn.) improves to 3-0 in net making six saves over 71+ minutes of work before giving way to classmate Sandra Griffith (Roland, Ark.) who added a save in the win.
- WIT sophomore keeper Juliana Heaton (Swansea, Mass.) suffered to loss to drop to 0-1 making a pair of saves before sophomore Lily Cohen (Cherry Hill, N.J.) worked the final 29+ minutes of the game, also making two saves.
