THE LEAD – With time running low in a crucial Great Northeast Athletic Conference match with potential postseason implications, Saints sophomore Addie LeGault (Farmington, Conn.) finally broke through the tough Cadets defense, providing the game-winning goal and lifting the Saints to a 1-0 win on Saturday afternoon.
HOW IT HAPPENED
- After controlling much of the play in the second half, the Saints finally broke through in the 84th minute thanks to the team-leading eighth goal of the season from by LeGault.
- In the offensive third, Saints junior Megan McMillen (North Branford, Conn.) took possession of the ball, turned toward goal, and sent LeGault in behind the Norwich defense with a perfectly weighted through ball. One touch to control the ball and LeGault fired a shot from right near the penalty mark, beating the Norwich goalie, giving the Saints the breakthrough goal and 1-0 advantage.
INSIDE THE NUMBERS
- The Saints outshot the Cadets 12-3, including a 7-2 advantage in shots on goal.
- McMillen's assist gives her a team-high three assists this season.
- Saints sophomore Lexi Della Rocco (Chester, Conn.) made a pair of saves, improving to 4-6-2 (3-4 GNAC), with her third clean sheet of the season.
- Norwich senior Kim Watt (Lindenhurst, N.Y.) came up with six saves for the Cadets, but the loss drops her to 3-7 (2-7 GNAC).
