FRANKLIN, Mass. – The Dean College women's soccer team was edged by Emmanuel College, 1-0, in a Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) match at Lippert Field on Friday afternoon.
Dean falls to 3-5-2 overall and 3-5 in the GNAC. The Bulldogs begin a three-game road trip on Wednesday at Norwich. Emmanuel improves to 4-6-2 overall and 3-4 in conference play. The Saints play at Saint Joseph's College of Maine on Wednesday.
The game's lone goal came in the 75th minute when the Bulldogs were whistled for a foul in the box and the referee awarded Emmanuel a penalty shot. Senior Bailey Maurer (Florence, Mass.) stepped to the spot and scored into the bottom left corner of the net.
The visitors controlled the possession in the first half and had a 13-0 advantage in total shots, 5-0 in shots on goal, but the Dean defense held strong and kept the Saints off the board to head into the halftime break in a scoreless tie.
Dean first-year goalie Haley Gaunt (Johnston, R.I.) made 10 saves in the loss. Emmanuel sophomore goalie Lexi Della Rocco (Chester, Conn.) stopped one shot to earn the clean sheet, her second of the season.
Emmanuel finished the game with a 22-5 advantage in shots (11-1 on target) and a 6-2 edge in corner kicks.
