THE LEAD: Sophomore forward Addie LeGault (Farmington, Conn.) scored two second half goals within a span of four minutes to lift Emmanuel College past Elms College, 2-1, Saturday afternoon in Great Northeast Athletic Conference women's soccer action at Roberto Clemente
HOW IT HAPPENED:
- The Saints outshot the Blazers by a 9-4 margin in the opening stanza but sophomore Angela Picheo (Wood Ridge, N.J.) and sophomore Lexi Della Rocco (Chester, Conn.) kept the game scoreless heading into the halftime intermission.
- LeGault broke the 0-0 tie with her third goal of the season at the 61:39 marker to put the hosts on top, 1-0. Junior forward Megan McMillen (North Branford, Conn.) served up a corner kick that senior Hannah Sullivan (Vernon, Conn.) headed towards the back post. LeGault cleaned it up to put Emmanuel on top for good, heading home the score.
- Less than five minutes later, LeGault made it a 2-0 game, bending home a 24yard strike from outside the top left corner of the penalty area for her fourth goal of the campaign.
- The Blazers cut the deficit in half with 4:09 remaining in regulation as Morgan Foucault (Putnam, Conn.) fed Elaina Vilar (Watertown, Conn.) for her third score of the year, making it a 2-1 contest.
- Emmanuel was able to keep Elms at bay over the final minutes of action to hold on for the 2-1 GNAC victory for their first conference win of the year.
INSIDE THE NUMBERS
- The Saints finished the afternoon with a 14-11 edge in shots and owned a 7-4 advantage in corner kicks.
- Della Rocco notches her second win of the year in net making three saves while Picheo suffers the loss making five stops.
- The two-goal game marks the second brace of the season for LeGault who also netted a pair of goals in Emmanuel's 6-1 victory over MCLA on September 4.
