THE LEAD – Lasers first year Alyssa DeOliveira (East Providence, R.I.) scored twice for Lasell University, leading the charge in the 3-0 victory over the Emmanuel Saints in Great Northeast Athletic Conference play.
HOW IT HAPPENED
- The game's opening goal came late in the first half with DeOliveira scoring her first career collegiate goal in the 40th minute, giving the Lasers the lead. Sophomore Charlie Arellano (West Covina, Calif.) send in a cross from the right wing, toward the penalty spot. DeOliveira won the race to the loose ball and found the back of the net for her first of the day.
- Lasers first year Priscilla Martinelli (Plymouth, Mass.) doubled the lead in the 53rd minute with her first career collegiate goal. Sent into the box by DeOliveira on a through pass, Martinelli made a quick cutback to her left foot and lofted a shot over the hands of Saints sophomore goalie Lexi Della Rocco (Chester, Conn.), giving the Lasers a 2-0 edge.
- DeOliveira would strike again, this time in the 67th minute, adding to the Lasers lead. Senior Serena Speight (Biddeford, Maine) had her shot saved by Della Rocco, but the rebound found DeOliveira on the back post as Lasell took a 3-0 advantage.
- Saints senior Kennedy Davignon (Woodstock, Conn.) had one of the best opportunities for Emmanuel on the afternoon. A free kick from the top left corner of the penalty area in the 75th minute was shot to the near post by Davignon, but Lasers sophomore goalie Kyli Swann (Queen Creek, Ariz.) was there to keep the clean sheet.
