THE LEAD – The Emmanuel College women's soccer team scored early and late to earn a hard-fought 2-2 draw against visiting Lesley University on Monday evening in non-conference action at Roberto Clemente Field.
HOW IT HAPPENED
- The Saints got on the board just 2:33 into the contest as sophomore back Lily Tobin (Hanover, Mass.) placed a corner kick to the far post, finding senior Kennedy Davignon (Woodstock, Conn.) for her first goal of the campaign to give EC the 1-0 cushion.
- Emmanuel sophomore goalie Lexi Della Rocco (Chester, Conn.) made the lead hold in the first half, stopping both shots she saw on goal to give the hosts the 1-0 advantage heading into the break despite being outshot 7-3 in the stanza.
- The Lynx clawed back into the game and evened the score in the 70th minute on a corner of their own as senior Kerrie Larson (Bristol, R.I.) fed junior Calle Masters (West Linn, Ore.) for her first goal of the season to tie the score at 1-1.
- Lesley rode that momentum as first year Abby Kalou (Buffalo Grove, Ill.) assisted senior Chloe Kouyoumdjian (La Canada, Calif.) for her second goal of the season to pull the visitors ahead 2-1 with 16:19 left to play in regulation. The duo combined along the left side of the pitch as Kalou drove the ball to the end line before finding Kouyoumdjian with a left-footed cross in the penalty area for a tap-in score.
- EC battled down the stretch and got the equalizer with 3:23 left in regulation as sophomore Melissa Mauro (Old Lyme, Conn.) set up junior midfielder Sophia Chirigotis (Merrimac, Mass.) for her second goal in as many games to send things to OT knotted at 2-2.
- Lesley outshot the Saints by a 6-0 margin in overtime but Della Rocco made two stops in each extra session to preserve the 2-2 draw for the home side.
