BOSTON, Mass. - Senior forwards Kayla Generis (Wethersfield, Conn.) and Mikayla Guthrie (North Andover, Mass.) combined for five goals to power the Emmanuel College women’s soccer team past Anna Maria College, 8-0, Saturday afternoon at Roberto Clemente Field.

THE LEAD: Senior forwards Kayla Generis (Wethersfield, Conn.) and Mikayla Guthrie (North Andover, Mass.) combined for five goals to power the Emmanuel College women's soccer team past Anna Maria College, 8-0, Saturday afternoon at Roberto Clemente Field.
HOW IT HAPPENED
- Generis got the scoring started in the fifth minute of play, finishing a pass from junior forward Natalie Dash (East Haven, Conn.) to make it 1-0.
- Guthrie followed suit in the 17th minute to make it 2-0 as Dash and Generis set up the goal for her 12th score of the year.
- Junior defender Kaylin Deschenes (Lynn, Mass.) got into the scoring column with her fourth goal of the campaign heading home a corner kick taken by Guthrie to bump the lead to 3-0.
- Dash scored her 10th goal of the season in the 26th minute, tapping in a rebound off an initial shot from Alyssa Abele (Manchester, Conn.) to account for the 4-0 halftime score.
- Guthrie netted her second goal of the action just three minutes into the second stanza with a left footed marker assisted by Dash to make it 5-0.
- Generis then scored back-to-back goals, both assisted by Guthrie in the 53rd and 62nd minutes of play to increase the lead to 7-0.
- Freshman forward McKenzie Leahy (No. Chelmsford, Mass.) finished the scoring with her third goal of the year in the 78th minute, converted a cross from freshman Shelby Olsen (Charlestown, R.I.) to make it 8-0.
INSIDE THE NUMBERS
- Emmanuel outshot the AMCats by a 28-1 margin on the day with the only Anna Maria attempt coming in the second half by Shannon LeBlanc (Lancaster, Mass.).
- EC junior keeper Lexi Gawron (South Hadley, Mass.) made one stop in the win to notch her fourth shutout of the year and improve to 9-4 overall in between the pipes.
- AMC goalie Rachel Matloff (Grafton, Mass.) made 12 saves in defeat for Anna Maria.
- Prior to the start of the match, the Saints honored Guthrie, Generis and fellow seniors Rachel Beliveau (West Springfield, Mass.) and Emily Medeiros (Barrington, R.I.) in a brief senior day ceremony.
UP NEXT
- Emmanuel is back to the pitch on Wednesday evening, heading across the city to take on Suffolk University at 7:00 PM in more GNAC action.
- Anna Maria is idle until next Saturday, October 20 when they head to New London, N.H. to face Colby-Sawyer in their final game of the 2018 campaign.
