HEART BREAKER FOR WOMEN'S SOCCER, DOWNED 2-1 BY UMB

BOSTON, Mass.—For the second-straight game and third time this season, UMass Boston women's soccer scored two goals in the final 15 minutes to earn a huge non-conference victory. 

THE BASICS

HOW IT HAPPENED 

With the Beacons trailing 2-1 after 75 minutes, freshman Mary Jo Murphy (Worcester, Mass.) and sophomore transfer Lindsay Bouscaren (Cambridge, Mass.) each scored their first collegiate goals to lead the comeback. 

Murphy scored the game-tying goal in the 77^th minute on a shot from the top of the box and then added an assist on Bouscaren's game-winning goal in the 86^th minute. 

Freshman goalie Abby McCulloch (Weymouth, Mass.) made one save on two shots to improve to 4-3 on the season. 

Junior Natalie Dash extended her goal-streak to six-straight games, when she gave the Saints a 1-0 lead in the 21^stminute. 

Lexi Gawron stopped five shots in the loss for Emmanuel. 

UMass Boston came out as the aggressors in the Tuesday night's contest, but struggled to put anything on target. Freshman Jahlyla Ocampo (Braintree, Mass.) was consistently making dangerous runs on the right side, but the Beacons struggled to connect on the final pass in the attacking third. 

Emmanuel took the lead at 20:57 against the run of play. The Saints sent a clearance from their own half that the Beacons let bounce 25-yards from net. UMass Boston's back line had a breakdown in communication and let Dash chase down the ball and rush in one-on-one with McCulloch, before sending a shot into the lower-right corner. 

The Beacons continued to push the attack to end the half, but they were forced to settle for long free kick attempts and shots from outside the 18-yard box. 

UMass Boston began to push numbers forward at the hour mark and instantly started to create better chances. Gawron was able to stop a shot from 10-yards out by Morgan Palma (Halifax, Mass.) and then denied Cal Pitts (Marshfield, Mass.) on a decent chance off a corner kick.  

Murphy finally tied the game at 76:30. The Beacons' starting left back, who pushed forward into a forward position at the hour mark, linked up with fellow freshman Grace Oliver (Rockland, Mass.) for a great goal. Oliver fought off a defender at the top of the 18 and slid a ball into the path of Murphy, who's momentum was carrying her away from goal. Murphy proceeded to lift a shot over the head of Mowran to the back post for a 1-1 tie. 

With the Saints still struggling to push forward, UMass Boston delivered the game-winning goal at 85:41. Freshman Allie Crawford (Kingston, Mass.) blasted a cross into the six-yard box where Bouscaren and Murphy were waiting with one Saints defender. Both forwards kicked out at the ball twice, before Bouscaren slid a shot through Gawron's legs. 

The Beacons easily played out the final 4:19, as they held Emmanuel without a shot on goal. 

BY THE NUMBERS

• UMass Boston outshot Emmanuel 21-8 and held an 8-2 edge in shots on goal. 
• With the win, UMass Boston improved to 2-6 all-time against the Saints and snapped a six-game losing streak. 
• Seven of UMass Boston's 10 goals have come in the final 15 minutes of games. 
• The Beacons are above .500 (4-3) for the first time since September 6, 2015 when they were 1-0-1. 
• Emmanuel coach Greg Visinho spent 10 seasons as the Beacons assistant/associate coach before taking over the Saints job this year. The Saints are also coached by former Beacon Kerri Alexander ('19) and goalie coach Dan Campagna. 
• Nine different players have scored a goal this season, including seven freshmen for the Beacons. 

WHO'S NEXT 

UMass Boston will open Little East Conference play on Saturday when they host two-time defending LEC Tournament Champion Western Connecticut State University at 4 p.m. 
Emmanuel returns to action on Thursday evening when they host Rivier University at 7 p.m in GNAC action.
