THE LEAD
New Haven, Conn. – Senior forward Kayla Generis (Wethersfield, Conn.) registered four points on one goal and two assists to power visiting Emmanuel College past Albertus Magnus College, 3-0, Saturday afternoon in Great Northeast Athletic Conference action at Celentano Field.
HOW IT HAPPENED
The Saints kicked off the scoring in just the sixth minute of action as Generis played a ball from the left wing across the penalty area to junior forward Natalie Dash (East Hampton, Conn.). Dash gave Emmanuel the 1-0 lead with her fifth goal of the year and has now scored in five consecutive games.
EC added to the lead in the 22nd minute when Generis was able to get by a Falcon defender to create a 2-v-1 opportunity for the guests. The senior fired a shot towards the far post which Albertus Magnus keeper Cassidy Scofield (Shelton, Conn.) tried to clear but it went right to senior forward Mikayla Guthrie (Andover, Mass.) who cleaned up the rebound with her team-leading eighth goal of the campaign.
Scofield kept the Falcons close, making several diving saves during the action but the Saints defensive unit silenced the Albertus Magnus attack. Emmanuel added an insurance goal in the final minute of regulation as Generis sealed the win with her first goal of the season to account for the 3-0 final.
