WOMEN’S SOCCER HEADS TO ALBERTUS MAGNUS FOR GNAC QUATERFINAL REMATCH

BOSTON, Mass. – The Emmanuel College women's soccer team heads to New Haven, Conn. to take on Albertus Magnus College in the 2016 Great Northeast Athletic Conference Quarterfinals this Sunday, October 30 with kickoff slotted for 1:00 PM. The Saints earn the No. 6 seed in the eight-team field while the Falcons boast the No. 3 seed.

This marks Emmanuel's fifth straight appearance in the GNAC tournament and 18th all-time, while the Falcons have been to the postseason for eight consecutive seasons. The Saints are 17-14-2 all-time in the GNAC tournament, most recently making a run to the championship game in both the 2014 and 2015 playoffs.

The Saints and Falcons have only had two prior meeting in the postseason. Last year the tables were turned as Emmanuel held the No. 3 seed and hosted the No. 6 Falcons in the 2015 quarterfinals. After 110 minutes of scoreless soccer, the Saints advanced via a PK shootout, 3-2. The other meeting resulted in a 4-0 Emmanuel victory in the 2009 quarterfinals. The Saints were the No. 2 seed that year and the Falcons posted the No. 7 seed. Kate McKenna scored twice for the Saints in the win, while Amber Di Nucci tallied a goal and an assist, and Jessica D'Ottavio posted a seven-save shutout.

In their meeting earlier this season, the Saints snuck picked up a key 2-0 road victory on October. 1 behind goals from senior midfielder Maggie Carey (Swampscott, Mass.) and sophomore forward Kayla Generis (Wethersfield, Conn.). Freshman midfielder Kaylin Deschenes (Lynn, Mass.) assisted on both goals while junior Tori LaRoche (Hudson, N.H.) made seven saves for the shutout.

Carey leads the Saints on the year with 20 points on eight goals and four assists. Senior forward Courtney Freadman ranks second on the squad with 14 points with five goals and four helpers while Deschenes and Generis are tied for third with 11 points each. LaRoche and the Saints have combined for eight shutouts on the season.

The Falcons are led by senior Danielle Polvan (East Haven, Conn.), who became the school's all-time leader in goals and points. Head Coach Nick Wajnowski also became the first coach in program history to reach 100 career wins, as he currently sits at 101. He is the winningest coach in program history and he earned his 100th win in a 7-0 whitewashing of Suffolk at home last week.

The winner of Sunday's quarterfinal will take on the winner of the No. 7 Suffolk University vs. No. 2 Johnson & Wales University contest on Wednesday, November 2 at the site of the higher seed.
