When the Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) clash finally got underway, the second of three games in Mustang City on Saturday, the visiting Saints of Emmanuel College had the last word, scoring four first half goals and two second half tallies en route to the 6-0 GNAC victory.
Saint's freshman Kaylin Deschenes (Lynn, Mass.) opened up the scoring for Emmanuel at the 11:49 mark of the opening stanza when teammate Rachel Beliveau (West Springfield, Mass.) slid a ball through the six yard box to Deschenes' foot who slotted the ball past Mustang net minder AnnaMarie Seiler (Biddeford, ME.) for the early 1-0 lead.
About twelve minutes later in the 23rd minute, Deschenes was active again inside the Mustangs defensive third of the field when she crossed a lofted ball that ended up hitting off a Mustang defender and into the net for 2-0 visitors lead.
Senior Maggie Carey (Swampscott, Mass.) tallied her 8th goal of the season, an unassisted marker, when Seiler lost her footing in net as the ball tipped off her hand and into the mouth of the goal. With just under a minute left in the half, Olivia Collins (Douglas, Mass.) notched her first career goal as she found a loose ball at the top of the box that she blasted home for the commanding 4-0 Emmanuel lead headed into the break.
Saints Mikayla Guthrie (North Andover, Mass.) and Emily David (Valley Stream, N.Y.) both collected their first goals of the fall, while Guthrie scored off a cross from Deschenes and David off the foot of Carey from a corner kick.
The Mustangs had several opportunities in the first half and the second to get on the board but were unable to capitalize when given the opportunity.
Seiler made nine saves in between the pipes for Mount Ida while her counterpart Victoria LaRoche (Hudson, N.H.) padded just two.
The Mustangs season comes to an end while the Saints will carry the #6 seed into next Sunday's GNAC quarterfinal matchup on the road against #3 Albertus Magnus with game time slated to begin at 1:00 PM.
