Records:
Emmanuel: 4-6-1, 1-1-1 GNAC
Johnson & Wales: 5-2-2, 1-0-2 GNAC
Statistical Leaders:
Gabrielle Weithofer (JWU): 1 Goal
Courtney Freadman (EC): 1 Goal
Of Note:
The last six contests between Johnson & Wales and Emmanuel have been decided by one goal or a tie. Last year the Saints won a pair of one-goal decisions, including a 1-0 overtime victory in the GNAC Tournament semifinals.
Emmanuel opened the scoring in the 10th minute when Courtney Freadman put back a rebound to give EC the 1-0 lead. Right before halftime, Sara Kate Matthews (Northborough, Mass.) sent in a pass to Gabriella Weithofer, who slid the ball past the keeper on the lower left to tie the game in the 43 minute. After only scoring once last season, Weithofer has three goals this year.
The two goalkeepers took over from there as neither team could break through for the go-ahead goal. Johnson & Wales had several opportunities, but EC goalkeeper Victoria Laroche turned them all away, including two in the second overtime. Wildcat keeper Colleen Lynch (New Milford, Conn.) was equally up to the task as she stopped five shots. JWU had a 17-15 advantage in shots as well as 11-6 on goal.
Next Game:
Johnson & Wales continues its three-game home stand when it plays host to Coast Guard at 7:00 PM. The Saints are back in action on Wednesday, Sept. 28 with a GNAC tilt on the road against Simmons College at 7:00 PM.
