BOSTON, Mass. - The Emmanuel College women's soccer team was blanked by York (Pa.) in its second consecutive 5-0 loss to open the 2016 season.
Freshman Georgia Gillcrist scored twice for the Spartans in the opening 33 minutes to send Saints into the halftime break down 2-0.
Saints sophomore Rachel Beliveau (West Springfield, Mass.) nearly tied the game with her shot 58 seconds after York's first tally, but it was stopped by York goalkeeper Brittany Cullison.
Natalie McCarthy, Corie Elliott, and Hailey Turney all tallied second-half insurance markers for York as the Spartans cruised to the win.
Caitlin Rankin chipped in with two assists, while Emily Cronise and Noelle Spinosa each had one.
Sophomore Kayla Generis (Wethersfield, Conn.) attempted three shots, placing one on goal, while Beliveau and senior captain Ashley Frank (Portland, Maine) each put one on target.
Cullison (2-0) made three saves to pick up the clean sheet victory, while junior captain Victoria Laroche (Hudson, N.H.), (four saves, two goals allowed) and freshman Alexis Gawron (South Hadley, Mass.), (one save, three goals allowed) split the game for the Saints in the loss.
The Saints attempted eight shots and were only whistled for five fouls, while York fired 16 attempts and committed 10 infractions.
Next up for the Saints is the home opener against Wentworth on Tuesday evening at Roberto Clemente Field.
